Title: Glenda Green - New Satchel
Post by: Greg Massey on January 09, 2020, 08:25:27 PM
Glenda Green is setup again this year at Unicoi Call Builders Show in Helen Ga. and today she debuted her new old School Bottomland pattern Satchel. She was able to start purchasing the original bottomland material in December... She has posted pictures on her Facebook page of her setup at Unicoi and the NEW original bottomland satchel... Place your orders with her ASAP....

I can't wait to see it.  I carried the minimalist bag last year all over the place and in my opinion it's the finest bag made.

I would consider a satchel, but what do you do for a cushion?

The short turkey hunting chairs that have been available for a few years are a game changer.  My back wont let me sit against a tree for very long without having to move a little.  The chair lets me sit for a long time if need be. Carrying the bag and chair is no more than a vest but much more user friendly in my opinion.

You could attache a aftermarket cushion to you belt with Velcro strips or snaps.

Awesome day at the Unicoi show. Took 30 Original bottomland Satchels and sold out....and 20 of the new bottomland (been making these for 2 yrs) and 3 left. Will be taking orders and you will have before turkey season. Still have plenty of cases, box holsters and rollups. Stop by and see me if you are coming tomorrow.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200111/ac0d4a76f2a56685f2ce9b5cb7ea3cf5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200111/71ea42c6c755bc4b210f47e977ba54c9.jpg)

I got number 18 yesterday morning. Its a fine satchel. I use it to haul my booty. Filled it up twice. Wallets alot lighter but man I ended up with a big haul of some fine calls. Booked for next year.

How would a day of hunting play out with a bag like that. What would you put in it? Would you carry a chair or pad separately? Just curious how you'd use it and cancel a vest.

She makes an awesome intertube seat cushion with the same type waterproof material as the satchels that you can carry along with your satchel ...

Love my minimalist satchel.  Have not missed the vest.  I use a chair or will carry a cushion if on the move.

[/quote]  You can use the satchel just like a vest, it will hold everything a vest will hold. The satchel is cooler as the weather heats up, you have a waterproof material with the satchel... Can you say your vest has waterproof material... go to her Facebook page and look at the layout of the satchel... Carry a chair separately if you want or use her waterproof material intertube seat ... Also is your vest USA made... All her products are made in the USA ... My day plays out with turkey hunting.

No argument there. But how is it feasible to carry that. I see people carrying loads in the Turkey woods. Which is fine but I can't see doing that. It looks like a big old pocketbook and not feasible to carry.

Again, I'm not knocking it at all. I just can't see how this would even come close to replacing my vest that I have so dearly grown to love. Again, my best has yet to let me down. That's more than I can say about anything else I have or have known. Lol

I really don't think this satchel is something you need. i would keep using the vest ... it's not a pocketbook, it's a satchel .. anyway use whatever you need to be successful in the turkey woods.

Late season, when its hot as balls, to hot for even my strap vest, is when this shoulder bag, swung down low on my waist, will be most useful to me. ;)
I can see that
Season opening in my neck of the woods sees temps I'm the low 20s before light, so I've got all kinds of layers going on,that I end up carrying later in the day. Add a decoy, thermos and seating for a fat man, and I think I need a vest still.
Would be a great go bag for Impromptu run and gun hunts or perhaps something to drag into the blind I think.

I think it comes down to personal preference. If you think more is better, then by all means use a vest with an attached seat etc.  On the other hand, if you prefer to just carry the bare essentials necessary to keep you safe, comfortable and get the job done, then use one of Glenda's satchels and a cushion. I also think that age and physical ability have something to do with our preferences in that, at least for me, the older I get the less I want to carry in the woods all day and that is what convinced me to give the minimalist vest a try. It forced me to think about everything I carry and to ask myself if I really needed it in order to be safe and comfortable in the woods all day and get the job done?  Different strokes for different folks, use whatever feels best for you but keep in mind that preferences have a way of changing and don't be afraid to change with them.

Everybody hunts differently and carries an array of items they need, want or think they need into the woods.Thats okay, we all have our levels of comfort and accessability. Certainly for some a vest works well but from those who have one of Ms. Greens satchels they are happy! I know I am. Ms. Green can make anything you need if you just contact her. American made, quality items and a great person to work with! Much better and a lot cheaper then a $450.00 vest!
Call it what you will, a satchel,  pocketbook, or a murse (Manpurse) if it makes my hunt easier I'm in.
