Title: Best Choke Tube for TSS?
Post by: StruttinGobbler3 on January 09, 2020, 11:46:01 AM
I've recently changed over to shooting the federal premium TSS loads in #9 shot, and after killing three gobblers with it I've been amazed. It hits like a freight train with a hornets nest pattern. I'm setting up a new turkey gun this year, and was wondering what choke tubes do the best with TSS. I usually shoot a choke that throws the tightest pattern I can find. That way, if I misjudged my yardage, it's still a dead bird. Any closer than 30 yards I shoot for the base of the neck. So which choke should I be looking at?

My buddy bought one of Primos Jellyhead TSS Choke Tubes last year and it throws a awesome pattern using the Federal TSS #9 loads. I'm going to bye my son one for his Mossberg 500 20ga this year

I'm not a Beretta guy but TSS normally shoots too tight a pattern at close range with aftermarket chokes.  If your Beretta came with the X-full turkey choke, I would start there.  Probably something in the .700 to .720 range.

When I shot TSS through my 12ga's the factory full chokes did very well, and the same from all the 20ga's I have. But being a typical turkey hunter I could not leave the 20's alone.  Discovered that Indian Creek, Truelock, and a SumToy will all produce 350+ in the 10@40, with very even hauntable patterns.  What I'm trying to say is a factory full will produce a good enough hunting pattern for most guys.

Pure Gold .660 - (490-520 pellets)
Indian Creek .670 - (490-520 pellets)
PatternMaster .665 - (480-500+ pellets)

Load: T558F #7.5x9 or 8x9 TSS

From www.nitrocompany.com

I use heavy shot from them. I've found their recommendations to be on the money for the shotgun/shell/choke! Look up their website even if you don't use their ammo.

Good luck.

Beretta Extrema 2/ Hevi 13 Choke .671
330's in a 10 @ 40
Hevi 13 3.5/2.25/7's

Running low on the 3.5 7's and just got 3.5 TSS.Shot one through a Remington gun with a .687 choke and it was business at 40yds.

660 to 670 range would be a good start
