The thermometer read 19* this am on the ride to my property....coldest morning of the year, so i knew it was going to be a good one!
After realizing i forgot my phone 15 mins into the drive, i had to turn around and get it. I was planning on going deep in, and dont really like being without it (just in case)
Besides, there's bears and possibly a sasquatch, so i need to be able to call for back up!
Pretty uneventful morning so to say...saw a 2yr old 8pt following a doe early on. About an hour later 3 does came up the ridge headed for a clearcut.
I checked the time, 8:10, i was thinking i have to endure the cold for a few more hours, wen i hear what sounds like a heavy footed deer headed my way.
When you hear it, you know...they break every branch and drag their feet....typical mature deer stride, purposeful.
He was walking thru the paw paw's and its like shooting thru jail! I was thinking this joker is going to walk past me and im not going to have a shot!
Luckily, he came right to me...shot was maybe 10 yds. Hit him high in the shoulder and caught the spine.
Follow up shot put him out quickly.
Not a bad deer for central Md....huge head and neck, I'm more impressed with maturity over score nowadays, but its nice when you have a little of both!
