Title: 18.5" Barrel Turkey Choke Optima HP
Post by: M1KL83 on August 20, 2019, 11:45:38 PM
Good day, recently  bought a Beretta 1301 Tactical w Optima HP choke thread. I'd like to double it as a turkey gun. My understanding is that the Optima HP barrels prefer tighter constrictions, especially so in the shorter barrel variety.
Anyone here pattern a Beretta 1301 for Turkeys yet? And/or what are the SBS 18" barrel guys using for their turkey chokes?
Ideally I'd do a straight comparison at the range of several of the choke brand tubes at varying constrictions (.650 - .670) - Sumtoy, Indian Creek, Rhino, Jebs,  PatternMaster etc but that will get quite expensive quite quick, especially with shipping to me in Canada.
Plan to use Long Beards #5 or #6, whichever perform best.
I do have healthy stock of Winchester Double X #6's but I think I'll upgrade to the Long Beards this year.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice, suggestions and experience you can share.

Cheers,

Mike

665 to 670 should work fine.

I have the beretta A350 and uses the optima hp choke. used redhead .680 and did fair with lb 1 5/8 oz #5. Shot the kents 1 7/8 oz #4 a little tighter. Even pattern but not as tight for my liking. I would go with a .670 or tighter. Just my 2 cents. Good luck and keep us posted.
