Title: measurments
Post by: saltysenior on May 04, 2011, 06:34:14 PM

after looking at and reading about turkeys killed this year,i have a question on how properly to measure spurs and beards ..i have a spur that measures   1  1/4''on the inside of the leg,,1 3/8'' when measured from the back of the leg,,and 1 9/16 when measured on the outside of the leg and that could even be fudged a 1/16......which is correct??
with beards do you measure to where most of the hairs end or do you measure the longest single hair??? ???

Spurs are measured from where they start on the leg along the outside edge to the tip.  Beards are measured by the longest attached strand.  Here's a link.

You don't know how much it pained me to retrieve that link :TooFunny:

Saltysenior, make sure that 13 3/4" strand is connected and not held in by dried blood or something else.

two years ago I shot a tom with a heavy 10in beard got to him and said "dude look at how long this one......."

pulled out that one long strand out in my hand, was over 12 easy.. oh well still one of my most memorable hunts. 10min to go on the last day after a 1/2mile dash to get infront of him and watching him flog the crap out of 2 jakes that made the mistake of gobbling at HIS hens

Truth be told, Ronnie sits in his bedroom at night with a night light on lookin' at the pictures from his NWTF magazine. (He keeps them hidden between the box spring and the mattress of his bed.)
