Ive fooled with some some form of smokeless tobacco since I was a teen..chewing tobacco, snuff, etc..For the last 15 years it has been primarily snuff. I like the taste and like to take a dip...but I'm fighting to quit now..Ive been fortunate enough to have no problems from it yet..but Im no fool and have friends that have problems from it. I laid it down a few days ago..its time to walk away...If anyone else out there is trying to quit after many years of smokeless tobacco..man it's tough sure enough.
This August will be 4 years for me after using for 25 years. It is tough and I still have cravings, but will not go back. One dip and I will be using a can per day. Hang tough. If you really want to quit then you will do it.
:anim_25: im now 26 years smoke free :whip2:
Brian
I picked it back up after being tobacco free for 9 1/2 years. I need to quit again, but it is tough.
Nicotine in any form is a real b#tch to kick. It'll be seven years (this coming Memorial Day weekend) since I had my last cigarette. I still get the cravings... :(
Good luck, and just take it one day at a time. :anim_25:
If it will help you guys...just think of all the turkey huntin' toys you can buy with the money you'll save by quiting.

I smoked for 10 years, early in my life. I quit and began using Copenhagen. I chewed that for 10 or 12 years and quit. I am here to tell you that it is harder to quit the chew than it was to quit the cigarettes. Granted, I quit the butts and went right to chewing, so it went from one directly to another. When I quit chewing, I had no crutch to lean on. Other than M@M's. It has been more than 20 years since my last dip. It can be done..Good luck to you, Jim..Stick with it, Brother..Mike
On a lighter note, I worked with an older gentleman that chewed Copenhagen, as well. His saying was, ''I ain't much for the ladies, but I sure 'nuff get horney for that Copenhagen''. I guess that says it all.. :you_rock:
I currently dip Copenhagen. Have now since I can remember going to my first rodeo. I've tried to quit a couple of times, but one slip and I'm back to a can a day. Definately one of the hardest things I've tried doing.
My dad smoked like a train and drank hard too for 30 years..laid em both down on same day and never looked back. He picked up a little chew habit after and rode that for about 8 years...6 months ago he tossed that habit cold turkey. I just shake my head. It's gotten to the point I can't pass a store without wondering If I need snuff and it pisses me off to think I let somethin get hold of me like that so I'm done with it. Gotta think about dad.
i have a friend who just had the bone in his jaw removed and the bone in his leg cut out to replace it. CANCER IS NO JOKE.
QUIT NOW
I Quit a at thanksgiving and it is HARD!! I have been having aweful craving since turkey season started but I just laid it down and hope the craving get better. good luck bud.

Congrats Gobbler74,
I have been quit for 15+ years now. It does get better. You just have to hang on a little each day. I don't even think about it anymore. Try and keep your hands and mind busy. When you get the cravings if you can resist it for just a few min. your mind will get over it and you can resist it. Good luck.
Rick
My father was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer when he was 53 years old , he lasted 2 years - Its tough not having my turkey hunting buddy around
No joke - smoking will kill you
One word for ya...Chantix...its worked for me...twice now LOL...going on two years now
I have been trying not to take a dip for tommarrow for about 15 years, and I could still put a handful of skoal in my mouth, One day at a time, you can do it and you will be glad you did , plus save some money!!!!!!!
Glad to hear you quit and hope you can stick to it.
I have a big pinch in right now. I've been dipping for about 14years and need to quit myself. I quit once for a while and somehow convinced myself after a while that chewing Levi would be ok(not hardly). You have to go cold turkey or it will lead right back to dipping. I wouldn't even go the fake snuff route either. A friend of mine quit, but couldn't take it so he started the fake stuff and went right back to dipping shortly after.
I use Ice Breakers Peppermints when it gets bad.
Well I dipped for 29yrs. I have been dip free for 4yrs now. And it is going to stay that way. Hell I don't even think about it much anymore. I just set my mind to it and said that's it. Took a last dip and threw my can away for good. :z-guntootsmiley:
Ok guys listen up let me tell you what is going to happen if you don't stop, i have been smoking for the last 45 years and next week they are going to remove both my kidneys as a result from smoking. i have cancer in them, no more weekend hunting trips, vacations or anything that takes more than one day, got to go have my blood cleaned every other day. so if you want to live this life keep on smoking. all my working life i looked forward to retirement so i could hunt and fish when ever i wanted to, well that time is here and i will not be able to do these things now.STOP!!!
i don't chew any more [9 yrs].......but i can't say i gave it up..i want a chew 10 times a day....my new chew is a plastic tooth pic
after many years [30] of heavy smoking, i gave them up cold turkey w/out to much trouble..then one day i tried just a little chew.......
i was told that doctors from the Charlotte,n.c.area,tobacco hdqts.,agreed that smoking,is the most dangerous heath wise, followed by dipping. chew is not as bad .
Im 32 and have been dipping snuff since I was 14 or so. My 7 year old daughter walked up to me on Monday and told me that snuff causes cancer and that she didnt want me to have cancer. Needless to say, I didnt take a dip and havent had one since then. Its terrible to deal with the withdrawls, but ill be damn if i let that litlle girl down. Ive tried to quit before but it never worked. Hopefully this will be the kick in the @ss that I need. Good Luck Fellas!
Quitting is easy - I've quit dozens of times!! :smiley-char092:
No one likes a quitter!!
i need to quit to and right now is probally my time. The factory i work at has went tobbaco free. After the 3rd time u get caught i reckon your out the door. And after reading this i might just quit.
I got about 3 more cans left.
When I started dippin' Skoal was 29 cents a can. I finally quit about 18 years ago. I still crave a dip when somebody opens a new can. What I don't miss is sore gums and constant heartburn. Hang in there it'll get easier in a few days.

I think it was 37 cents a can plus tax when I started at 13.
And you can dip right in front of me now and it don't even phase me. :you_rock:
my plan is to quit May 31 after turkey season i find that it is much easier to pick a date ...something to set your self up for ...it worked for smoking...plus my wife said she would buy me a benelli m2 20 ga if i did...
good luck :you_rock:
Keep at it. I quit 10 years ago from dipping Cope for 30 years. In the end I was dipping 2 1/2 cans a day. It was the hardest thing I ever did. The only way I could do it was by using the fake mint dip. Boy did that stuff taste horrible. In the beginning I would mix the two together and slowing cut back on the tobacco until I weaned myself off it. After about 2 or 3 months I had no nicotine fits but still have cravings to this day every so often. Chief.
smoked for 22 years. been quit for 19. Its not easy but whenever your mind is made up you can do it. If someone says they are TRYING to quit, it ain't going to happen. You just have to quit.
Good luck!!
