My father and brother brought my 85 year old grandpa up from Florida to hunt the prairie last weekend. It turned into a typical SD prairie hunt where once you get into the birds then they are everywhere. They each bought a few tags a piece and I had a couple ranchers calling me to thin out some of their birds so we gave it the ole college try. Ended up only hunting Friday afternoon through Sunday morning and harvesting 6 gobblers and 2 jakes. The two jakes were roosting above one guys house and were fairly tame and he kept trying to run them off with no luck. Felt weird killing them, but I'd rather me do it and they get eaten by my family than let the rancher shoot them and be thrown in a ditch.

One of the jakes had a bunch of white feathers on him. Not sure if crossbred with domestic or something else. Part of a very isolated flock with no domestic birds anywheres close at all so I'm banking on something other than a domestic cross. All other birds near there didn't have similar issue. Skin was also very think and scaly almost.
Don't know what to tell ya about that jake..but congrats on a get weekend hunt

I would say so. Congrats
Congratulations to each of you. Man I want a Merriam's badly, love all that white in them. Would love to hunt them in the snow. Isn't there another species with the white in them? I thought Rio's but from pictures I have seen researching a hunt in OK I guess it is not them.
