Title: Turkey vests !?
Post by: fadetoblack188 on May 01, 2019, 03:08:13 PM
Which one is everyone using?  Thinking about ditching the regular backpack for a vest.

I like the idea of a pad to sit on and pockets for calls

I think you'll find that there are a lot of options out there but Alps, Cabela's and Ol' Tom seem to be the most common.

This year I'm using a Tenzing TV18.  I love everything about it except for the fact that I have to sinch it down all the way to make it even remotely fit.  They only have one size and it seems to be tailored towards the L/XL crowd.

I will likely be buying an Alps Grand Slam in the off-season to see if I like it better.

Knight and Hale vests are great! I recommend them or Alps

How big of a fellow are you?

I am a small guy, and a lot of the vests I liked did not fit, nor could they be made to fit me...  "One Size Fits All" means it will not fit me.

I went with the Cabela's Tat'r simply due to the sizing, but admittedly, am very satisfied with the vest.

I hunt some steep areas with long walks, and when I kill birds, I am generally walking uphill to the vehicle (due to the parking/driving availability).  The only reason I stick with a vest is due to my preference for carrying a bird a long ways uphill in a vest as opposed to a tote or over-the-shoulder.

I use the Cabela's tactical tater ll.  Had it for several years now.  It's got a little wear and tear but I like it.
