;D Well, we are roughly sitting 7th out of 18 teams. Are you guys ready to put a move on yet?
Moved up to 5th, so let's keep it rolling. :you_rock:
You need some help Jay, I've got an extra bird you can use. ;D

I see you've been layen down some bigguns. :icon_thumright: Too bad I've still got you on the biggest bird. :TooFunny: :TooFunny:
Rumor has it you actually killed something but your afraid to post it. :begging: I'm not worried, I had another darn good year! Called in quite a few birds for buddies also and still have a couple that need some and i enjoy that more than getting my own!
You had a great year. Two over 70 is awesome. What states are you killing them in?
Both came from here. I'm done myself, my son and another buddy still have tags and I can go call for them but my free time is coming to a close. Both upcoming weekends my son has trap shoots on saturday and sunday. One of these years I would like to try another state but with my other hunt in Wyoming, my early muzzy deer and a week on vacation with the kids I don't have much vacation time left. The biggest one came off the same farm and same spot as my bird from last year!
2 out of 2 over 70? You have some kind of system of scoring them before you pull the trigger or they get a pass? Dang?
I've got some killer ground down south. The 1st one I shot at 1 - 1:30 in the afternoon and it was a no brainer. 2 gobblers and 7 hens came into the field I was in and by some strange luck I called those 2 away from the hens and over to me. One was the strutter so what did I do? Shot the strutter!. The 2nd one was pretty much luck and a death wish. I brought my buddy to that farm and called that bird in to him twice. He missed him at 30 yards, and a 2nd shot at 40 yards. He ran back behind us and I yelped at him which made him gobble. Then he walked by the back of the blind at 35 yards or so and he missed him again! Strange thing was that bird then went out about 75 yards and strutted and gobbled at us for about 45 minutes. I went back to the same spot later and he was roosted there again. Called him in behind the blind and I didn't have a shot. About 45 minutes later he came waltzing on in. Strange this was this farm is always full of birds but this year we would only hear a few and they wouldn't ever come anywhere near us. After getting that bad boy I figured he was keeping the others at bay. I bet that farm is lit up now that he is gone!
Them birds are on steroids. Awesome Toms. I need better land. Hunt way too much Public where birds don't get the opportunity to get older than 2. I'm working myself to death to just shoot anything. I can't continue to push as hard as I'm doing without repercussions, but that's the road you have on Public.
I'll be in em thick starting on thurs eve if all goes as planned. KS here I come!
I'm heading to SD Friday night after work. I have two tags that are good for any wild turkey. I don't guess a hen will help our team much? ::)
I'm doin my best fellas..It's been a rough road. I almost drooped a hammer on a Jake yesterday just to get rid of the Hex..Maybe tomorrow things will change.
:anim_25:
Everyone
Well, I've got Sunday and Monday to fill my last Iowa tag, but hunting Public with the Mushroom hunters probably out in force Sunday will hurt. We need some birds down with only 1/2 the team bringing one in this late is worrying me a bit. ;D
Just got home and yes I am readyt ot upgrade!!! :z-guntootsmiley:
Shot a 24 lb double beard - 4 yr old bird. Will get pics up before I leave for the next trip.
So I easily have a 20 point upgrade I beleive to my first bird!

:you_rock: Man, I knew you'd come through. Hopefully, we can put on a late rally.

ATTABOY!!!!!!
Jay and team - I am not done hunting till the end of May! I have 4 tags to cover thenext 3 weeks. I should not even be back yet but I am bone tired and old! I need rest.
I may leave Saturday to see if I can use this 4th season tag but the week after I have 2 for 2 different zones and the same the following week!
So I will be busy!
Hey congrats to my fellow teammates - I just don't take a computer with me. No time to fool on this thing.......In bed at 8 - up at 2 PM - out the door at 3 PM and hunt from sunup to sundown if allowed!
I started this 4/27 - lasted till yesterday and I could take no more. Passed on several jakes - saw 2 beareded hens, a bobcat, a few yotes, and deer. I hunted through hail, sleet, snow, rain, wind (the worst) and some nice weather. Worst spring ever - hunted a place I called in two as I was helping a new hunter. He passed on each and after the second I informed him training was over. I could have easily shot either bird.
And of course the next day they where no where to be found!
So I came home as I was tired. Did shoot on my trap team to catch up. Shot 138 out of 150 - was happy with that.

Saw a nice one today but he had some hens with him, will try again tommrow.
Weather is supposed to be great tommrow.
Well, we got 9 hunters scoring a bird, so need one more hunter to score for our 10th, and then it's culling time :you_rock: Most of us are still hunting, so hopefully this shouldn't be a problem. Good luck everyone.
:you_rock: #10 Shane Simpson with a Merriam, 18#3oz, 1"spurs & 15/16 spurs, and 7.75 beard. Now we are to the culling stage to get the biggest 10 for the contest. Good position to be in with the amount of hunters we have out there, but we are going to need some high 60s and bigger to scare some people.
No doubt Doug, that would have been a big help for our team.
We are unofficially at 616.6375 with 11 hunters putting down birds. That puts us around 4-5th with a lot of guys still hunting.
Went to Nebraska this past weekend. Helped my buddy shoot two nice birds. I was looking for a bird that would score in the 70's or higher but never got a shot. Might be able to go back the last weekend of May for one more chance.
We DEFINITELY need some decent upgrades, but we've kind of slowed down lately. Hopefully the next couple of weeks we can get some more birds down that figure in the scoring.
Have taken 2 of which niether upgrades what I have entered.
I have 4 days yet.
I won't be able to log back in until June 1. I might drag a computer along to see if I can pirate a WiFi somewhere. Better think about that!
JW
We are running out of hunters, but we need upgrades. Currently 5th, .930 from 4th, and 11.315 from 3rd. 1st and 2nd, as usual, pretty much locked up. We've still got hunters out there till the 31st, so hopefully someone can lay down a nice Turkey.
I have 3 mornings left to hunt Jay and if I can get one of those big boys that I filmed two weeks ago then I believe it will give me an upgrade.
Looking like 3rd, no lower than 4th. Good job everyone :icon_thumright:
That's awesome! Top 3 every year so far!

We were 2nd and 4th, so we now have our 3rd. I have a feeling Shannon is going to shake it up for next year, so we probably are going to have mostly a new team, if they go from 9-6. Personally I'd rather leave VooDoo and SGA fight it over for 1st and 2nd every year to mostly keep the guys I have on our team now. We don't shoot many birds, but we all get along real well, and are a competitive team. Actually, all the new members we had this year were assets to our team, and did well. It will be real tough to pick 6 out of our group from this year. I don't look forward to that at all.
Nice I had lots of fun this year being on the team Jay, And congrats to all of us for putting work! Looking forward to next year, unless there is a fall competition. :: :you_rock:

It was a pleasure being teamates with you this year. You put down a Tom with not the greatest ground to hunt, and enjoyed what you contributed to the discussions. Good luck next year.
Hey Jay thanks for yet another year.
If the rules state you can only keep 6 then I suggest random out of the hat to make it fair for all. Won;t rustle my feathers if I am dropped - I'll apear some where here.
While I don't agree with that rule it is OG's contest to run.
JW
thanks Jay Its always hard down here so far its been the best season for my dad and I. still cant believe that we both got birds this year, its by far our personal best lol. Cant wait till next year!
Well looks like another 4th. Missed a 99 bird with the Mafia that done us in. Oh well.
Another great job Jay! :thanks: I had a great season with you Raiders and really had some high hopes for the OG Cup. I wish I could have contributed to the team and help narrow that gap. It was a Blast :z-guntootsmiley: Can't wait til next season.
B-Well
Everyone
Great Season Boys!
Long live The Red Dawn Raiders!! :z-guntootsmiley:
This was my first time on the team but I had a great time and I am glad we were competetive. Met some really cool guys this year. Dont know where I will end up but I would be glad to be back with the Raiders next year.
Congrats to everyone. 4th isn't too bad. I would like to see there only be 6 to start a team and the rest random next year. I think that will really mix things up!!
Actually our highest average per bird ever at over a 66. Last yeat a 67 average won it all if I remember right, so a dang good effort this year.
Hey Buddy, time to wander over to the Raiders to check in. I'm hunting South of Topeka again this year, and would live to meet you, if time allows for both of us. Jay
