Does any know of a specific You tube or DVD or or other form of instructional video that has helped them get their cutting up to par. I'm pretty good with a mouth call and don't have any problem yelping and doing OK cuts but my cutting lacks that pop that seems to add so much realism.
To get my cutts to pop I make sure to use my diaphragm(diaphragm in your chest not your mouth) to force air out of my lungs along with saying the words peck,pick, pack and puck to change inflection. Granted you always use your diaphragm to get air out of your lungs what I'm saying is over accentuate the use of your diaphragm. Good duck callers know what I'm talking about. Blow out a candle and you'll get the idea. To get a high pitched cutt I say pit or phit. If I'm doing the pit phit thing right there will be a short little whistle like sound with the call not in my mouth. Just remember to over accentuate the use of your diaphragm and all your calls will sound better.

I agree with Paul about the mechanics of good cutting. Quick and forceful air release from the diaphragm, combined with tongue manipulation that allows the air to hit the call reeds in sharp "blasts",...and both in combination with the right call design,...is the key. I believe most folks that can't get that sharp sound have not mastered that quick air blast and tongue placement and/or are using a call design that just won't produce that sharp cutting sound.
A good "key word" to use to get the air and tongue placement correct is "cut". Say "cut" without a call in your mouth and that is basically the tongue placement and air release you need. Now say "cut" by saying it as quickly and forcefully as you can with your tongue tight up against your palate and that is the basic mechanic you need. After that, it is all in the call you are using,...and that can vary from user to user and call design to call design. Three good cut designs that work well are combo-cuts, ghost-cuts, and batwings. I'm sure there are lots of other variations, as well.
Yup what Gobblenut said. A good call design. I like to use 3 Reed calls like a split VIII design or cutting 2.5.
