I'll be hunting in OR next week. I'll try not to hunt where they are. If they can't find any gobblers there must not be any there.

Quick story of opening weekend a couple weeks back here in Georgia. My Dad,73, and his friend, 71, both hard of hearing and my self made a trip to my Dad's buddy's quail plantation in middle GA. We got there on Friday and saw some birds in a field that would be easy for them to hunt, neither get around too good anymore, and I went and actually watched 2 gobblers fly to roost that evening and told them to hunt there the next morning. The other guy with us has never killed a turkey so I thought this would be a good opportunity with Dad calling and Dwight shooting.
Anyway, after the opening morning hunt, they picked me up and I asked if they saw or heard any, "Nope" was the answer, so I thought maybe they just didn't hear them.
Next morning, I told them to go above where I was hunting across a wheat field, I had fond 3 big toms, 3 jakes and a gaggle of hens the day before. That morning, those 6 birds probably gobble 200 times between them. Once again, I got to the truck and said Did yall hear all those birds gobbling, again "Nope."
Next morning, same thing, birds gobbling, not as much but gobbling a fair amount. So I asked if they heard any, "Nope."
So finally I asked, Did yall even get out of the truck?
My Dad said "Nope"
I asked "Did y'all even roll down the windows?"
Dwight answered, "Yeah, for a few minutes, but it was windy and cold, so we rolled them back up and turned on the heat"
I just laughed and told them I didn't think they could hear a gobble if the bird was sitting in the backseat of the truck.
My Dad used to be a turkey killer, but age and health have slowed him down and it's sad to think that he wants to get out and chase them, but he just can't do it anymore.

That's life! The spark is there but the tank is empty. Something we all can look forward too.
