Post by: radbowhunter on April 03, 2019, 10:27:32 AM
Looking for recommendations, Alps, Browning or Turkey Thug from WalMart! Do any have a warranty?

Don't know about warranty but I have the Browning and love it. Used it last and this seasons and it makes staying still for an old man a breeze. It's light and easily carried in the woods. The ALPS and Browning look like they are made by the same folks to me.
You won't regret buying one.

I have.. or have had all of them. Most of them are made by the same supplier.. just with a different name on them.   The Walmart is the best one for me. Sits the lowest ...and is the cheapest.

I have had the walmart one now for four years and use it deer hunting also only thing I have had to do is put a screw in where one of the rivets popped loose

The Browning Stutter is made by Alps.  I have had two big box chairs (Wallyworld and Dick's) and now have the Browning.  Browning is much better constructed and is quieter.

I agree with the above posts about the Browning chair.  It is constructed very well and won't break after you plop down in it a few times.  It is also very comfortable for those mid morning naps when the sun hits you just right.

I have one of the Walmart deals...works just fine. My preference is my old Cabela's gobbler lounger, though. It seems a little more comfortable, sits more stably, and has held up to use over many years with no wear whatsoever. Sadly, they don't make it anymore...

Cabelas Gobbler lounger for me, ive had mine probably 4 years now and never looked back. No more sitting against trees or on a boat cushion, I can sit for hours comfortable in it.

I've got the ALPS and Wally World chairs.  Both are Great chairs.  Both are comfortable and sleep well LOL!  I don't have anything bad to say about either.

ALPS  for me.  they have been great. Just spent 3 days in TX and it's the perfect place to test these chairs. Gets your backside of the rocks and can set up in a second..

I always sat against a tree and a buddy of my got me hooked on these neat little chairs. I will say that I hunt longer and don't move around much using these. Coupled with my vest cushion it's like sitting on the beach just without the beer! I have a Browning and a Cabelas and both have held up for years. I like using them so much I have a spare just in case!!!

Cheap walmart one for me (along with the vest pad).  Good for calling predators or fishing off of a river bank too.  :z-twocents:

I've got 2 Gobbler Loungers, a Mac Sports Turkey Chair (same thing), a couple of the new model Cabela's chairs (I don't like), and an Everywhere Chair.  The everywhere chair is adjustable and much more comfortable, but it does not fold down as small and is not very portable.  It also has two rails instead of individual feet, like the other brands.  Any one of them is better than sitting against a tree with a bad back on no chair.

I have the alps, great chair but I hate carrying it!  May try a cheapo beach chair from amazon, they weigh half as much and I'm only 160lbs so it should hold up?

The Turkey Thug chair is an exact knock off of the Cabelas Gobbler Lounger, but it is a lot noisier. Spend the extra $10 and get a Gobbler Lounger. :z-twocents:

I have a love hate relationship with my gobbler lounger. It's so darn comfortable that I keep falling asleep in it, only to wake up with a gobbler screaming in my face and my gun across my lap. At 50+ and a beer belly It's also hard to get out of, I developed a move called the ditch and roll to free my backside from it's clutch. :TooFunny:

I'm 60. I've been using a boat cushion for 20 years.

What I do is leave a few of them scattered around the farm, so I don't have to lug them around. As I'm going past, I grab one as I'm heading somewhere, and then put it back on my way in.

A boat cushion is just enough to keep my butt warm and dry and give me a bit of a raised seat.

WOW.  I cant believe how expensive these chairs have gotten.  still well worth the money.  luckily I bought 2 back when they were $20 each!

Only thing I didn't like about my Cabelas Gobbler lounger is the finish on the metal legs, kinda shiny so I promptly gave it a rattle can spray job with OD green. Other than that no complaints.

Worth every penny I would be willing to pay more if I had too.

I used an everywhere chair for years. I bought a bunch when they stopped making them. I even sold a few here. I now use an Alps chair. I replaced all the rivets with black oxide bolts and locking nuts. It's a tank of a chair and very comfortable. I can sit for hours.

I have the Browning and like it seems to be holding up to my not so ideal weight of 270# and helps me stay in spots longer because it is comfortable. It was nice for coyote calling as well.

Just received a chair I found on backcountry.com   Lafuma low chair, seems pretty solid for its weight though I would not recommend it for any large individuals, I'm 5'10 160  May be a lil tricky on a slope but weight just over 3lbs which is less than half the weight of my gobbler longer.

Sprayed it olive drab with some paint I had, it was like 42$ shipped.

Just bought this one today. I could definitely fall asleep very easy in this chair. I'm 6'7" and I have plenty of room.

Well y'all talked me into one of these chairs. I swung by Walmart and picked one up. Not bad for $10. I cut the nylon strap off it and put a butler creek padded gun sling on it. Honestly my back has been hurting this last week and I think it's been from less than ideal sitting positions against trees so I'm looking forward to giving this chair a try. It's a little heavy but will probably be worth it. I was already carrying the hs strut seat so this won't be too much difference as far as having something slung around my neck.

Picked up a cabelas event chair for $30. Its gray and black. It has yellow lettering and string that will need some touch up but I think it will work just fine. It's the same as the other seats just not camo.

Since someone revived this thread, I believe the Cabela's Turkey Lounger is lighter than the Wal Mart turkey thug chair and the Browning/ALPS says they are 1/2 pound heavier too.  The WM Turkey Thug chair is decidedly noisier than the Gobbler Lounger.

These would be the **** if the damn legs folded up into the center of the frame where it'd be flat. Like the old Avery power seat.

Everything good stops being made

I have an ALPS vanish. Folds, Velcro close, shoulder strap. I'm 6'1 250 and the standard size is plenty big enough.

Just got another Alps. I like the way it folds , the legs on it and the wide seat. I put 2 claw slings on mine and wear it like a backpack. That chair and Glenda Greens satchel works great together.

If you have an Academy Sports near you they have their own brand of hunting gear called Game Winner. I bought one of their turkey chairs about 2 years ago and it has held up great for me and weighs about 6.5 pounds. Just looked and they are $25.00.

I also have been using Turkey Thugs - Wal Mart chair for 2 seasons, I also had to replace a rivet as one poster noted. I also found that wrapping a bungy cord around the chair while carrying it keeps it from opening up during lugging it around between setups.

Last year after the season I found out about the Lafuma folding chairs. Weighs about 1.5 pounds folds up flat as a seat cushion and has the rounded bottom legs that don't sink into the ground. Made in France...which I guess is better than China? The legs don't squeak when you fold them and it is every bit as comfortable as the chairs weighing 7 pounds. This season will be the real test.

I ordered it off some camping site with free shipping. I wanna  say about 20$. It does come in plain tan color but spray paint sticks to it no problem and drys  without being sticky.

* dang I just looked them up 40$ was the cheapest I found, I know I paid 20$ last May for mine. Inflation lol.
