Title: Turkeys won this year.
Post by: SC_WILDMAN on May 01, 2011, 08:56:46 AM
Unless, by some stroke of good luck, i get to go tomorrow afternoon, my season is over. In 33 years chasing these great birds, this is only the 4th time i have ever been skunked. I didn't kill a bird my first two years hunting them and  missed one season because of illness and this year.

I actually had the chance to put my tag on one yesterday. I had three jakes at 35 yds, red dot on one of thier necks and the safety off, but i stopped shooting jakes a long time ago. I let them go. Sounds like a simple thing, but knowing it would most likely be my last chance for the year and knowing it would mean a skunk for the first time in a very long time. it was a tough decision for me. Glad now that i let that bird walk.

Work and the weather both played hell with my hunting this year, but after barely scraping by the first three months of this year, i was blessed with an abundance of work in April. I love to turkey hunt, but you have to keep your priorities straight. Sorry i couldn't help the team out.

SC- Enjoyed having you on the team and my hat's off to you for passing on the jake... I can't say if I wouldve done the same thing.  At least you will have some screaming 2 yr olds next year!  I hope work continues to go well for ya, and save up some vaca time for next spring.

A man's gotta provide for his family and hopefully, the turkey hunting will always be there for ya later. Nothing wrong with passing on a jake and like honky said, it should benifit you next year. You've still been a valuable part of this team. Best of luck to ya!

Congrats on the job picking back up!!!  That's the most important thing for sure!  I don't blame you at all for passing the jake, I would have done the same.

You can take out your extra agression on them next year!! :you_rock:

Exactly!  You did the right thing...we play these silly internet games every year.   :D   Contest or no contest, I'm always sad when someone who loves to hunt turkeys isn't able to hunt as much as he wants...but then again, I'm sad that we can't hunt all year.   ;)
