Well two years ago my brother in law tagged along with a guy turkey hunting, they have one fly down and come running in, party over. Well he thought anyone can do this so last year he got a tag and things did not go as planned. So this year same thing gets a tag starts hunting on Wednesday and I get the call Thursday night could you take me out on Friday morning, so I cleared my day to go chase birds.
The first spot he hit no birds gobbling so we jump across the road to find 5 or 6 hammering in the roost yet so being its a little light out and no green on the trees yet we hang back a bit and set up, things where going good till a hen intercepted the gobblers and off they go and pretty much quit gobbling, at this point he's ready to give up and I say not so fast so long story short we bird dogged them for 4 hours and at one point was able to get them gobbling again by Jake yelping to them and it drove them nuts and kept us in the game in the end we ended up within a few hundred yards of where we started and my brother in law Greg was able to shoot his first bird ever. He did say several times after the hunt "man I would've left after they quit gobbling" I said most guys do! So happy to say I think he learned a lot about turkey hunting that day.
