My son is leaving Great Lakes RTC in a few weeks and going to be stationed at Groton Navel base, is there any Public WMA's near there that would allow Turkey hunting? I will be making the long trip from west Tn. to go see him one week and thought we might be able to slip a hunt in since we won't get to hunt Tn. for the first time in 19 years together. Not asking for an invite, just information on the area.
Pachaug and Nehantic State Forest would be good starts.
Check out deep hunting areas online. They have a nice mapping site that will show you all available areas open to hunting. There are birds in most places. I live in the Windam area and there is a lot of places to go. Some more suitable for cotton tail some better for deer and turkeys. The further you get away from the shoreline the better the woods get. Most areas are not very big but there are some larger with thousands of acres. I try to target any areas that have agricultural fields near by. //www.arcgis.com will get you to the mapping site. If you get stuck pm me and I will help you find a place.
Thank you!
