Title: M2 or SX3
Post by: RiverRoost on March 16, 2019, 11:42:03 AM
I don't have one personally but have seen what a benelli M2 20ga can do and just helped a buddy get his SX3 in a 20ga get setup and they are both stone cold guns. Just curious of yalls opinions on which gun is a better pattern producer? The reason I ask the difference is bc I am curious of different barrel designs.

I would go M2 20g. I definitely imo would stay away from the SBE2 and 3's. I've never had one yet that for Turkey's wasn't a challenge. The SX's have never appealed to me. Goodluck

The M2's are most definitely lighter which is the whole purpose of going tss.

I don't really quite understand what you mean by that?

Sorry. I guess I left out a part at the end of that sentence. In my mind the purpose of switching to tss would be to drop gun gauge and ultimately drop gun weight. Dead is dead in my opinion and the Nitros I shoot now throw a good enough pattern that tss to me in my mind would be overkill for me and liking.

I have an SX3 20 in bottom land. I never used an m2 20 but have a 12 and really liked it. I have also used an SX3 12 for comparison. You can't go wrong with either of those. I use a sumtoy .560 and it shoots federal 7s or long beard xr 5 or 6 great.

I have had and used both.  If you are using TSS just pick which one you like the feel of best.  I think the backbored SX3 will pattern better overall.   The SX3 I feel like is a better all around gun, I like the speed load, recoil reduction, pattern, no Benelli click, and all that good stuff.  That being said for turkey only I pick the M2, mainly because of its weight.  I put in a Wolff recoil spring to help eliminate Benelli click.
Can't go wrong either way with those guns!

That's kinda what I was thinking about the sx3 being backbored and the difference in possible patterns. I feel like the M2 is lighter also

M2 all the way. I absolutely love mine. As stated earlier, I would get the Wolfe spring for it. Definitely a top notch shotgun.

My buddy just got an SX3 20 ga turkey cantilever and its super nice, but I can't speak for the M2, although I am sure its a great gun.

m 1 in the 20 gauge for me shooting hand loaded tss 9's.  Running a burris fastfire 3 on it.  so my guess is that the m2 is just  as good of a gun as the m1.

I like my m1 20ga better then the m2s. Reason being is I feel the m1 balances better without all that rubber that is added to the m2 stock.
And my bolt is camoed ????, cant get that in an m2

The Inv + bbl will produce a better pattern over a large variety of loads, but they are both great guns. Both have pros and cons. You can't go wrong with either.

My wife has a m2 26" and I have a sx3 26".
Both are great guns and will blow your minds with the patterns they can produce.
I have ic chokes for both and they are very comparable. The best pattern I've ever gotten with the 1 5/8 tss loaf was with the m2 and 555 ic, 378 in the ten. This was the best, normally not quit that good.
To me, if I was buying again I would handle both and pick the one that handled best for me.
The recoil is a lot less with the sx3 gas and weight advantage but on the other hand the m2 is a feather to carry around.
I would not be concerned about the pattern as I think both will pattern better than you expect if you never shot tss.

For what it's worth I hunted the sx3 this years some and never got the m2 out of the safe
