Where is the optimum placement of holes for a reflex sight base?

As far back as possible, if you take the trigger pack out inside the receiver you will see a thicker part of the receiver that is long enough for a short or long base.

There is a flat spot on top of the receiver. Mine is mounted as far back as possible on that flat spot.
