Thanks for the vote of confidence Don. Don's no slouch either. If I remember correctly you had a western trip last year that was pretty hard on the turkeys.
I'm ready to see some dead turkeys from you guys! Anybody have ideas on name change a d who wants to be captain?

Hey I'm with you on that. I'm excited to get this thing goin and even more ready for the season to get here. Wish I was down in FL right now. I think I'm out on being the captain, not that I want to, goin by the rules I don't think I have enough posts to be. I'm up for whatever.
-Ross
I would do captain but I'm not very tech savy
We definitely need to start working on a new name. I'm not a real creative cat so let's just start throwing names out and we will have a vote. I'll throw "Beak Busters" in the mix and I'll work on coming up with more.
I'll throw in "Can't Stop The Floppers" lol.
-Ross
Feather dusters
Dawn patrol
Roost roasters
Haha I dunno just some I came up with
Killer B's ??
I ain't the most creative, either.
"The Snood Stretchers"

I like that
Ben here. Central PA. I think Killer B's is a nice name. I'll look into making a doc that can be printed off to record our #s should we be fortunate enough to get a few turkeys. I've seen other teams do that and it seems like a nice idea.
I'm down for Killer B's.
-Ross

Howdy fellas, I'm bill from central Indiana. I'm hunting Indiana and Kentucky this year. Hopefully with success
I'm also on board for killer b (even though I retired mine for dsd combo)

Hey guys. My names Trent and I live in Wyoming. Cut my teeth on hunting those black hills birds. Now I hunt 3 or 4 states a year. I simply love getting out in the spring and chasing these birds. I like the play on words that we were "team b" and going to killer B's!

Yoder, we pmed back and forth briefly last year. Don't worry, I had to go back and check myself Hahahaha. Southwest corner. Far away from any turkey hunting...although opportunities are starting to sprout up within a couple hour drive!
I never did hear how your hunt went! (I don't think)
Kevin here from east central Ms...seems more like deer season that turkey season right now!
Killer B's is a good name...here's a few more...
"Snood Shooters"

That's right......we did PM...... Old age and senility are setting in !!
My brother and I hunted for 5 days and got the middle feather from gobbling bird after gobbling bird. On day 6 we were only going to hunt til noon and leave for Nebraska. Just at sun up I killed a bird. An hour later and a mile away, my brother killed one too. Most IGNORANT birds I ever hunted !!! Gobbling hard on their own.......as soon as you'd call.......they'd go the other way. Around here, they say if you can kill a PA public land bird, you can kill ANY bird. I'd just about say if you can kill a WY public land bird, you can freakin walk on water !!! Lol !!!!
That's right! That's sparking a memory as well! I posted about being on Utah and trying to figure out what in the world was going on! You posted with the same stuff I was experiencing. It's all coming back now hahaha! I felt better about what was going on. Finally locate one and they'd gobble as they ran off. Still can't explain what was happening there.
For the record, I killed a bird in Wyoming last year that beat his head against a barbed wire fence for half an hour trying to get to me and his hens that figured it out. He then just appeared to magically walk through the fence when I noticed he'd been walking by a hole in the fence that entire time. So they're not always that smart hahahahaha!
This place got quiet quick. How do we officially change the name?
I think we just post what we want our team name to be and Shannon will set us up. This is my first time doin this so I'm not too sure.
-Ross
I'll shoot Shannon a PM about the name change.
Anybody thought about nominating their self as captain?
-Ross
Nope.
But I think you'll do JUUUUUUUUUUUUST FINE !!!
:D
According to the rules our captain has to have at at least 200 posts...
Anybody? Seasons will be opening soon, here in va I'm only a month away
I just got a few more days. The 16th-17th is youth and the 23rd is when it all starts to go down.
-Ross
Our regular season starts Friday...youth has been open since the 8th. I have a few birds on lockdown until opening day when they flip the script and make me look like an idiot...

I live in Hendersonville. I usually end up hunting in SC most of the time tho. Very hard to find a decent place to hunt in WNC now. Hoping to line up a SC turkey location. I have been close to completing archery slam 3 times over the years. Knocked feathers out of 3 Osceolas, just to watch them run off. :goofball: This is the year, i know it! :smiley-char092: Plus, im taking the gun for back up. Ill be down for the opener and a 4 day hunt. Enough is enough.

Thursday calls for rain all day and all night here in east central Mississippi. If we manage to get one opening morning he won't be pretty!
Season opens tomorrow here in Mississippi. Hopefully I can find one to play the game in the next three days. The woods are wide open right now. Good forecast for next week so hopefully they'll start greening up.
Good luck !!!

New kids on the block are coming out firing! Way to put one down khnc!!
Still 5 weeks to sit and wait up here in the Great White North...................
I'm chomping at the bit. Been driving around and keeping tabs on the flocks. They're still in their winter flocks around here. Found 4 flocks with an average of 40ish birds each within about a 1.5 square mile block. I'm sure it won't be long before they start breaking up.
Just started planning a weatern trip for next year to pass the time. On the briight side it takes the mind off Pa's late start. On the dark side, it fuels the fire more and makes me want to just pick up and go this year. Planning for 10 days next year and hitting South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas.
That sounds like a good time !!!
Me and my brother did about 10 days last year...... Wyoming and Nebraska. What a great time !!!
Been trying to get an upgrade the last few days but this bird is a doozy. He's easily a 5 year old bird...hunted him the last few weeks of last season and couldn't get it done. This morning he came into about 60 yards but a hen showed up and pulled him away. Hopefully within the next few days I'll post some pics of him in my hands!
Sully, you'll fall in love with hunting the ponderosa pine country out this way. Such a cool feel to be chasing Ben around the hills.
Good luck mossyguy!

Well GA's season opens up in the mornin. Wish me luck men, hopefully I can help with the board scores. Walked and scouted just about all day today and scouted last weekend. The birds are still grouped up here in the area I hunt but I have a good idea of where they roost and where they'll be headin in the mornin. Walked up on 4 strutters this mornin with a few jakes and about 15 hens. Got pictures of 2 of them bad boys.

I was thinking maybe we'd hunt a day down your way and a day up my way if it would come together. But you're waaaaaay out there, now........... :(
Looking good!!
Dandy bird Ross!!
Hit a high point at gobble time this morning to hear what I could hear. They were hammering away here and there. Heard, probably 6 or 8. Should have been more. But it's the most I've heard yet this spring.
Did some errand running after breakfast and there were birds out and strutting EVERYWHERE. Always nice to see and hear.
I did some listening and looking myself this morning. It was a great morning. Had birds gobbling on the roost on two different farms I'll be hunting this year. Did some driving and found more birds at a couple other spots. Starting to look like the big winter flocks are starting to break up. Flocks which were 40+ birds last week are in the mid 20's today. Saw some lone gobblers and small groups. Found this stud (only male turkey in the group) with 17 hens just before we wrapped things up for the morning.

Helluva bird Mossy! Congrats!
I missed this morning. Setup in a beautiful spot to kill one. Darn bird popped his head over the ridge and looked through a "V" in a split tree. He started putting when he did not see his lady and I rushed the shot trying to thread the needle and put $10 worth of TSS into a pine tree.
It's hard to be upset after such a close call on a beautiful morning in the turkey woods. Best thing about messing up a turkey hunt is knowing he'll be there tomorrow to offer a chance of redemption.
That's a great bird mossy. Congrats! We're about a week and a half away from youth day up here. The count down is on and I'm itching to get in the woods.
Hey, Sully..........just to clarify, it's about 2 1/2 weeks......... April 20. Just so nobody gets in trouble.
I am DYING to get my daughter out there !!!! She's my best turkey huntin buddy !!!
Ugggghhhhh. You're right it's 1.5 weeks to the trout opener. Getting old sucks. I guess my call tryouts for the top spot in the vest will just go on for another week. If I don't log on for a couple days check in on me. Having to deal with another week may just send my wife over the edge lol.
Sorry to be the bearer of crappy news............................. Just didn't wanna see a brother get arrested. Hahahahaha !!!!!
And thanks for reminding me.............. I gotta get a hold of Gooserbat and get me a fresh pair of killers............
I'll be headed out on the evening of the 12th for about a 500 mile drive and hopefully in the woods not long after daylight on the 13th. It seems that EVERY turkey season out west here opens on the 13th this year. Usually a couple are staggered, but not the case this year.
500 miles ???!!!!
That'd put you a good part of the way to Pennsylvania !!! Haha haha !!!
500 freaking miles! The first year I went I had an unfilled tag the day I was supposed to leave and ended up killing one off the roost. But that still made picking up camp and everything a few hours behind. With work the next day, it was a long ways!
I figure it'll be good practice for my 800 mile drive to Iowa :turkey2:
Looks like we are off to a good start! Doesnt look like ill be hunting much more this season unfortunately. GOod thing for me i shot the florida bird!
I just got back from my scouting trip in Kentucky. I roosted birds Saturday night went back Sunday morning and 3 longbirds flew down in a bottom field and worked within 75 yards of my ranger. Drove around all morning Sunday found 4 different flocks. Saturday can't come soon enough. Hoping to shoot my first bird with a bow!!! Here's a link to the rules. Multiple beards may be allowed in a separate individual competition but not the team. Please modify the score to just include the longer of the two beards and I will update the running score thread.

You only score the longest beard for this competition. It's unfortunate when it's your bird but it keeps things competitive
You can score multiple beards

I'm going to Kansas, Nebraska, and Black Hills in South Dakota last 3 weeks of May so hopefully I can top it then.

Youth day is awesome. My buddy and I had some success this morning with a 15 year old from his church. Hunt was text book. Got close to the roost, bird gobbled 2x on the roost, flew down, put on a show coming in across a field and died at 7 yards. 10 & 1/4 beard and 1 & 3/8 spurs.
If we hunt multiple states can we keep adding the birds to our teams score asking as the better than the last? Just wondering

I'm sure glad you're on my team Delmar. Great job!!
Thanks guys, I was fortunate to get lucky a few times this year, but I was served quite a few pieces of humble pie by these great birds. I've really enjoyed this competition and getting to see how everyone's seasons are going. Hopefully we can keep stacking them up!
I can't wait to get behind the gun this weekend. Got a bead on a bunch of different birds in a bunch of spots so my buddy and I have options. Should be a good season in Pa.
Leaving for Iowa today after work for a try at my first eastern. Google maps says 11.5 hours from the house! I have 10 days off, so in a perfect world I'll get tagged out in Iowa and hunt my way back across Nebraska. I'll try to update you guys best I can!
I hate to even say these words, but if you want to follow along and offer some tips, tactics, or encouragement, you guys can find me on Instagram at @twilliamswy or Facebook at "Trent Williams Outdoors".

I'd follow your adventure..........but social media ain't for anti-social folks, so.............
Tomorrow's our opener, here. Weather forecast for gobble time is 37 degrees with a 20% chance of rain & snow and winds 17 mph, gusting to 30 mph. Sounds more like freakin' deer season !!! Ugh.............. Anyhoo............ I have a pretty decent idea where I may run into some birds making for a field if it's REAL crappy in the A.M.
We shall see....................
I hear you Yoder!
Forecast is about the same here. Although it looks pretty nice here in Omaha right now!
Few more points for the B's...........
6:54 AM The day broke a WHOLE LOT prettier than the weatherman said it would. A little breezy, but tolerable. This guy came pushing 2 hens and 2 jakes in to me. About a 30 yard shot sealed it up pretty easily. Haven't measured or weighed yet (gotta do a Walmart run because I can't find my scale) but just a so-so 2 year old as far as score goes. A perfect TROPHY asfar as the morning's hunt experience goes.
Have a second tag in my pocket and two weeks of hunting EVERY DAY to fill it.

"Yalls team" ?? Dude.............this is YOUR team as much as anyone's.
Kinda surprising (maybe) we're doing as well as we are, seeing as how we're the SECOND thrown together team of random guys for the year.
Since one guy was a total no-show, we're 9 for 11, so far............ Where else you gonna toss together 11 also-rans into a group that's batting .818 with a month of season to go for some of us ???!!!
It'd be a shame to NOT keep this team intact for next year.
There is no doubt I want to keep this team together. This has been a fun group of guys that are flat out bad medicine for some turkey.

Well I knocked another one down in GA this mornin. Best mornin I've had in a while, I bet he gobbled around 30 times. Ended up scoring 62.3 just under my other score so I ain't gonna post the measurements. But this is the longest beard on a Tom that I've ever shot with a beard length of 12 3/8. He only weighed 14.4 so I believe that's what got my score. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190430/645abce1ba75ac3c0b3c3b729a9d134d.jpg)

That's a heck of a beard !!! At 14.4 lbs, that dude musta been BUSY this spring !!!
Hung tag #2 at 6:19 this morning.
Probably no score upgrade for the team. But what an awesome morning and awesome hunt !!!
Pics to come......
This is one of a pair of birds that hosed me yesterday. So I decided to hose him back today.
Yesterday, I had this dude and another longbeard strutting for about a half hour 30-40 yards out of range. Then 2 hens dropped outta the trees right into them and they all drifted off. So this morning I got in on the same spot.......just a tree or two away from where I sat yesterday..........and waited for them to fire up. When they did, one was about 150-200 yards behind me and the other was about 300-400 yards in front of me. I got up and moved to tree about 15-20 yards in the direction of the closer bird and set up facing thataway. Gave him a few tree calls. He was gobbling........but not AT me. Just gobbling. Then things got quiet for a minute or two and he gobbled from the ground. Gave him a flydown and he hammered RIGHT back. I cut him off, then did a flydown with my hat and did some sharp cutts. Got the gun on the stick and the dot turned on. About a minute.......maybe two....... I look right and he is out through the timber in full strut. He just starts picking his way toward me........strutting........breaking and walking...........strutting some more. At 34-35 yards he gave a textbook opportunity, which I obliged and my season was over. 6:19 AM.
Just an AWESOME hunt and an AWESOME morning to be out.....taking in the sights........ breathing in the smells..........hearing the sounds of God's AMAZING creation !!!!!
Praise Him from whom ALL blessings flow !!!!

Oh, MY, but it was PERFECT !!!
60-ish degrees..............slight breeze.............stars out............GORGEOUS sunrise..............and a willing participant.
Thanks on the gun. It's the product of 40 years evolution of me being a turkey hunter. Started with..........then switched to........
Winchester 1200 2 3/4" 12 ga
Remington 870 Turkey 3" 12 ga
Browning BPS 3 1/2" 10 ga
Winchester Super X2 3 1/2" 12 ga
Winchester Super X3 3 1/2" 12 ga
NEF Pardner 3" 20 ga (with the SumToy treatment)
The little single is a joy to carry and kills nearly on par with any of the 3 1/2" guns. Even a dumb guy will usually wisen up if given enough time.......... ;D
Yoder good lookin bird man. Them pictures you took are on point.

Well I thought my season was over but a friend called and wanted me to go to western Kansas with him. We left early Monday morning and got there in time to scout. The next day we both tagged out and came back on Wednesday. I didn't score them as we stayed busy until pretty much dark. It's my first trip for turkeys out west and my first Rios! Heck of a bird !!! CONGRATS !!!!
Thanks guys. I saw this bird by himself Friday night. Didn't get a real good look at him since I was trying to glass him from a main road. I knew he was heading toward a block of timber between 2 fields. This was the same block that I killed my first bird back on opening day. My buddy and I got set up before first light and we heard him gobble on the opposite side of the field. We moved as close as we could but ran out of woods with him still gobbling from the tree about 200 yards away. It didn't take long with him gobbling so much before we found him in the tree. And in the tree is where he stayed until 7:15. After he flew down we threw everything but the kitchen sink at him and he just stood in the field by himself picking seeds off the grass tops. After 2 hours of feeding in a circle at about 150 yards he decided he could come check out the two hens in the wood lot. I ended up shooting him at about 10 yards. Right after I killed him 4 more gobblers fired up and absolutely burned down the woods for the next half hour. All 4 came within 5 yards. What a great day.

Wait til you get to the Pine Ridges !!!
Yesterday morning I just happened to be out and about at gobble time. Up a ravine toward the top of my main ridge, there were 3-4 birds hammering on the limb. Sounded like a mature and 2-3 jakes. My older brother has just been getting into spring hunting the last few years. He's murder on fall birds. But always worked too much to spring hunt. Last night he wanted to know if I'd call for him this morning. Told him to meet me at my gate at 5:15.
The birds from yesterday vanished today. We picked up and moved a ridge over. Both brother and I had obligations that only gave us til 8:00 to hunt. We got in along a log in a fencerow between 2 fields and I called a bit. Hit the boxcall around 7:25 and a gobble RIGHT behind us nearly brought us out of our britches !! Three jake were coming across the little field right behind us. We waited them out to circle us............ which they did. At 7:35 bro' (who is 58) took his very first Eastern spring bird.
Super, SUPER cool morning !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Yoder. That's a special thing to be able to hunt with your brother.
Awesome!
Gentlemen, my season was made this evening. My dad, who has never killed a turkey, came to hunt with me this weekend on Nebraska public land and it has been a struggle. Birds have been roosting so close to private it's been hard to get on them. This was possibly the last day, as rain and wind is predicted the morning and my dad has to leave tomorrow.
This evening we went to roost birds and I spotted 2 hens and a Tom. We kept driving without stopping, so we wouldn't spook them, and parked 500 yards or so away and doubled back to intercept them as they went to roost in the bottom. I couldn't decide if we should crest one ridge to get a better angle or stay put, and that decision was quickly made when one of the hens walked into view. A minute later he stepped out, and my dad made a great shot.
He was with me when I shot my first deer, and the emotions that go with that have come full circle as I was able to be with him when he shot his first turkey. I've had a great season, but I would've traded it all away for the memory we made this evening. "Just a jake," but I couldn't happier even if he had 2 inch hooks and a 12 inch beard.

Congrats Delmar. I'm still working to get my old man his first. It's tough when you live a couple hours apart and only hunt a day or two together each year. This coming Saturday is that day. Hopefully I haven't burned up all my luck for this season yet.
CONGRATS to the both of you !!!!!!!!!!
Memories you'll NEVER forget.
