What is everyone's opinion on the best slate pot call, that can be purchased without a massive wait time....i.e. in time for this season? Looking at a David Halloran but would like other opinions or options.
Paul Hicks aka Daddy Rat, he will hook you up

Mike Yingling makes a very nice slate.
I really like my Halloran Zebrawood Slate.
Travis Wyatt
Mike Yingling
Paul Hicks
John Sinclair
Mark Cunningham
All quality call guys. I will say, Travis makes a cherry slate as good as any I've heard or played. And I mean any. But opinions are truly personal when it comes to the sound YOU like.
x2 for Hicks Jr and Cunningham with Halloran (gray slate) as well.
Not big on slate as a playing surface but Lonzo's green slate sounds as good as any I've played. It is not as mellow as some slates though.
If we're talking ready right NOW, my vote would be for anything from Bill Zearing.
I agree with the post above about slates being mellow, that's my preference as well. Green slate is all the rage, but IMO they sound about the same as glass/crystal.
Macks Prairie Wings has Halloran's solid zebrawood grey slate in stock.
It is my favorite grey slate next to my older Sneed Raspy Boss Hen

Fyi there is a yingling in the classifieds.
Mark cunningham known as footballer . Paul hicks aka daddy rat or buy a crystal mistress and get after it.
Nathan Taylor @ Higher Calling Custom Turkey Calls makes some awesome calls Green & Red Slate. Check him out you want be disappointed.
Save yourself the time and the money of going through a bunch of calls and just order a CODY you won't regret it. If you don't have the big dollars to spend on the World Class or Spec 1 get yourself a Woodsman DD Slate it is a killer, I will not leave home without mine.
Pick out one of John Sinclair's pots off his website. You can choose the materials. I gots red slate in a Osage pot. It sounds great.

Lee Chadwick, Kevin Farr, Al Holbert are some more good ones :turkey2:
I own a number of pot calls from a number of makers. The favorite I have in gray slate is a walnut pot that I bought from Russell Beard of Beard Hunter Calls a few years back. He usually has them ready to go and will ship. You can call him and get him to run one or more for you.

Old Redbeard usually has calls available too.

Lon Trice of Lonzo's Calls probably has them ready to go as well.
Dustin Jones green slate needs to be on this list

X2..... and available!
To my ear and in my opinion it's hard to beat a John Sinclair Gray or Green slate over copper. Pick your pot from the cyt section from various beautiful woods, pick your price point and you will have your call in a matter of days.. Bolivian Rosewood Gray slate over copper. Go listen on his YouTube he has a comparison between green and gray slate both over copper.
