I just got 2 Boxes in the mail of these rounds. The boxes say #9 but each shell says 7 - 9. Is this just a generic shell they use for any in this range or did I get something I didn't order?

You got something you didn't order! This happened to me and another guy in TN. Federal had put shells in the wrong box. You have the new 7/9 blend they came out with this year. I had got mine at Rogers sporting goods and they took care of it and exchanged them for me. I don't know where you got yours because they all have different policies. If you do not want the blends I would contact who I got them from to see what they will do.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like Federal's problem but I'll start with the place I ordered from. Aren't there laws prohibiting returning ammo?

Just ordered some from Roger's. Will be checking them out. Maybe they will be #9.

Yes there is.
I thought so. I just emailed the vendor so we will see what they say.

I also just got 2 boxes in that say #9 but the shells have 7-9. Gotta love it.
Did yours come from rogers?

No, Midsouth Shooters Supply.

Mine were from Palmetto State Armory both the same lot number both the 7-9 duplex and 1 5/8oz
Lot #5S10SE323
Sounds like they may all be 7-9.
well hell. mine are the same, box says straight 9s shells say 7-9. what is worse is the first one that I tried to shoot was a dud. Not feeling very confident in the federals right now
Thanks for the heads up, i need to check mine. The duplex 7x9 are more expensive.
Call Federal customer service, they are good to deal with
I sent some back about 5 years ago, they payed shipping both ways and took care of the problem
I think some of you may be confusing store policy and the law. I am guessing if you place an order and the incorrect ammunition is in the box that the store could send you the correct ammunition and a packing label to send back the incorrect ammunition If they want to. Then they would deal with the manufacturer. Then again they may tell you that it was not their mistake and refer you to the original manufacturer. If the law truly says you can't return ammunition then I guess everyone is just stuck with whatever is in the box! Let us know what happens! I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time.
UPDATE: The vendor responded to my email saying they contacting their rep and that were packaged incorrectly and Federal would be contacting me to correct the issue.

I called today and they returned my call a couple hours later. Told me they were send me 2 boxes of the straight 9s.

Man I've been getting pumped up about trying these 9's out. The mixed up shells doesn't bother because that's an easy fix but shells not going off is a problem. Has anybody else had this happen? Sounds very odd to me cause I have never had a Federal shotgun shell not go off.
I ordered 2 boxes from Midsouth last week and they had contacted me about it saying that they would probably be mis- packed and when I got them sure enough they were. They took my name and said a federal customer service rep would call me in a few days. That was Thursday and I haven't heard from them yet to see what they are going to do.

I was told on Thursday that Federal would contact me but I went ahead and called on Friday. If they do call me I'll tell them it's already been taken care of.

A month ago I ordered three boxes of 20 ga. tss9's thru my LGS ,I got the right shells. When I went to sight the gun in the fourth shells primer blew about 90% out which caused the gun to jam. I was using a Mossberg sa 20.I called Federals' Customer Service and they told me they haven't had any complaints with this batch of shells but I could send a box back to them and they would check the pressures on them. I also sent back the shell that blew out. I had to send them back on my dime and that maybe they would replace a box. This was two weeks ago and I haven't heard anything since. Having said all of this I'll probably use these shells this spring because I get such a great pattern out of that gun. I hope I only need one shot!
Got my 20ga. Federal #9s in today. Checked them and they all say #9s. Now to see if they fire?
Got my two boxes in. Both 9's
I'm still waiting on mine

me too, they finally got back to me and my 7x9's were picked up yesterday by UPS. I also found a feed store the next town over that has lots of tss loads and they had federal tss boxes of 9s that were actually 9s.
Not at all telling you what to do fmf but if I actually seen some #9 in a store then I would get a couple of boxes that is a rare find! Federal got sold out of #9 last year and that may be why you guys are still waiting. Wonder why they didn't send you the #9 by ups with a shipping label to send back the others? Instead of just a pick up?

i picked up 1 box, now your making me think i should go get another! yeah man, i' thought it a little strange that I'm sending back the shells without the replacements in hand but we'll see what happens
Got my #9 TSS replacements in today. Now for the weather to cooperate so I can test them out/
UPDATE 3: My straight 9 replacement came in yesterday. The problem is they sent 12ga instead of 20ga! Im awaiting a return call from them on this issue. Hopefully Federal's customer service continues to be to good. We shall see.

I guess I got the wrong customer service rep when I called. They never offered to replace the ones I got. Just offered a refund once they recieived the shells back. He told me that he couldn't offer to replace them bc he didn't know if they had them in stock. I emailed customer support about it and shockingly enough have not heard back from them.
UPDATE #4: I spoke with customer service again and they are going to rush me the correct shells, said he triple checked the numbers. Said I get to keep the 12ga shells also.

Mine replacements showed up today and they are correct
UPDATE #5: The 20 ga straight 9s arrived on Thursday. They through in an extra box for all of the issues. I should be set on turkey shells for a while! I can't say enough good things about Federal's customer service through all of this. They recognized and owned their mistakes and went above and beyond to make it right. I would have been more than willing to return the incorrect shells but that was never considered by them. A+ in my books!

I guess I'm going to have to call customer service again. Hopefully this time I get someone who is actually willing to help.
Finally got a call back from customer service today. They are sending me replacements and letting me keep the 7-9 blends.
