Title: Not a good way to start a turkey hunting trip
Post by: Beretta686 on April 28, 2011, 06:34:58 AM
It started yesterday afternoon when I got home at 6 and had not packed yet for the trip. With the weather in Alabama I was watching the weatherman when he said rotation on grier road seek cover now. The only time in 40 years I went for cover. The tornado took the side of my neighbors house 200yards away off. When it blew by I went out to help. No one was injured so we went looking up the road to help. The tornado went through a neighborhood and killed 4 people 2 miles from my house.

About 9 Delta called and said my flight was canceled. There are 6 of us going to Colorado to hunt. One guy got on the phone and we were put on a flight in atlanta.

I helped where I could, looked at the trees down in my yard, surveyed the roof (just a few missing shingles) and packed for the trip. The power came back on just before I left at midnight. Wemade it to Atlanta about an hour ago and are going to board the plane.

The storm was not as bad as the one in tuscalousa, but it was bad enough.

My phone rang non stop from family and friends checking on my family.

Please pray for the families of the people in Alabama.

Glad you made it through without severe damage or injury. We have been dodging them like crazy here in AR the last few days. Enjoy your trip!

The last couple of weeks, there's been hundreds of tornado reports in the East and Southeast US.  My son, just closed on a brand new home and moved in the last of February and his neighborhood was hit on the 16th of April.
Six to eight homes totally destroyed but he was fortunate to only have minor damage.  Other neighborhoods, here in Eastern NC, weren't as lucky as 23 people were killed in Bertie county.  Onslow and Greene counties had extensive property damage also.

I'm glad your OK and my Prayers go out to the families that lost LOVED ones, along with those that had extensive property damage.

My wish for all 6 of you is that you have a SUCCESSFUL and SAFE trip.  Look at it this way, IT CAN'T GET MUCH WORSE!  Bust some BEAKS and send some PICS, if possible.

:jesus-cross:  Prayers going out to everyone that was hit by these storms.  I laid awake in bed several times last night listening to the storm that came thru my part of VA.  Been a bad spring as far as tornados go!

Glad to hear you and family are okay....I feel your pain. I've been in the woods one time this yr...this morning...due to tornado warnings, rain, wind, flooding and hospital...heart. Still can't get around on the roads here...Southern Illinois..due to closures from flooding.

I'm in Denver, my wife just told me one of the ladies that works with her lost everything. Not sure of the condition of a gentleman who I'm on the Mens Ministry @ church. The only thing left at his house is the bathroom.

The death toll in Alabama is growing 168
