Me and a friend went to South Ga. hunting a couple weeks ago. What was going to be a Turkey Fest didn't really work out, the Turkey's were not gobbling at all. The second day of our trip we were walking through the swamp on a logging road and my buddy jumped sideways and yelled watch out!! I stopped in my tracks and laying about 4 feet away was this ugly raschal all coiled up and ready to tear something up. I hated to waste a Hevi 13 #6 on him but needless to say I felt compelled. I will be wearing my snake boots next weekend!!

Dang I would be a mess if I walked up on him. How many rattles.
Congrats.. I really like a good dead snake story.. Mike :icon_thumright:
I have killed them before and they did not rattle.
The best way I have found to kill them is to choke them to death on heel dust when you take off running.... :toothy12:
That would ruin someone's day. Looks like a big one.

LMBO
wow, glad y'all are ok...i would have died right then and there.
Around here it's often that they don't rattle this time of year, if he's between me and a gobblin turkey I'll go around or move em aside.
I wear my snake boots every day of the season regardless of the temperature outside, turkey season is too short to worry bout snakes day after day.

Welcome to the south and snake boots are a must! Nice job taking him out. 1 less to worry about for the rest of us
I can do fine without them. Glad no one got bit as that would have ruined your day.
Better him than you! It'll give you the heebie-geebies for sure.
I guess all the snake lovers are going to sit this one out. Great story with a very happy ending. Except for the part about the turkeys not gobbling.
He'll make a nice belt, hat band or just skin him and tack him up. Other than being a rattler is he a canebrake, timber or eastern diamond back? He must have got the old ticker skipping a few beats! :you_rock:
He's a biggun'

Don't know much about them, but my buddy said it was a Timber Rattler. I've only seen one Rattle Snake in my 12 yrs of hunting turkeys in West Ga. but he did warn me about them before we went.
sometimes in mid-day i feel as when im hunting im being preyed upon also. they hide so well in the leaves. round here we got big problem with copperheads and cottonmouths. my buddy stepped on a copperhead this past saturday. scared him pissless, bit his boot. ill try getting pic on here sometime
You know I would like to see one of them in the wild. I know we got them where I hunt, but I have yet to see one.
