Title: Will a Gobbler Return After Shooting At Him?
Post by: forcercon1 on April 26, 2011, 03:28:27 PM
I have to admit, I got excited and missed this morning. I had been hunting this bird for 4 mornings and he finally made a mistake, and so did I!!!!
My question is, will this bird gobble in the same area and come to calling again? He flew only a few 100 yards and landed...

Yep. I missed a bird twice exactly one week ago. I was back in there today and he was hammering. Just tweak your setup and kill him!

The only way he won't return, is if you kill him the first time..

That is a big ten-four - You can even kill him later on that same day.  But not from the same set up.   :z-guntootsmiley:

I had a buddy miss a bird one morning, I went back in two days later to the same spot and killed one.  When I cleaned it it had a few pellets just into the breast meat that didn't penetrate that were not from the shells I was shooting.  They were just starting to change colors a little.  I assume it was the bird he missed just 40 yards from where I killed him.

Setup on a different place on the property and call...
Give him something different to think about..
You dont have to move far but a little different location might get him to come in...

Just a week ago I called one up and missed him then went back the next morning and he was in the same tree as the day before hammering away.

My cousin called up 4 gobblers for his girlfriend one time and she missed one of them. He went back two days later and called the same 4 back up and killed one of them. In a few days he should be callable again.

I often have 2 gobblers come in and one gets shot and the other bird hauls tail and a few minutes after watching his buddy get drilled he comes on back to get a face full Hevi his self. That boom means nothing to a turkey,If it is a CLEAN miss, just sit tight for a bit with some soft calling before you get up and confirm your miss. The turkey probably didnt go far after you shot and is still as horny as he was before the kaboom.
