Title: Late Season Grouse
Post by: Deputy 14 on January 06, 2019, 04:28:56 PM
Who else loves late season grouse hunt?
Had a great day today with 5 flushes in 4 hours. Also got to break in the new to me A5 Sweet 16.

Congrats.  They are not easy to hit.

Congratulations. Never done it myself, have always wanted to try pheasant but don't trust myself wish somebody walking along side me while my gun is loaded because of my balance is not trustworthy in that kind of footing. Used to love watching that show Hunting with Hank on the I believe it was The Sportsman's Channel, they would go all over hunting all kinds of upland game birds and so pretty to see Hank go on point. Really liked the theme song for it to.

Late season grouse is a great way to spend the day stompin' thru the woods.  We used to go to Thompsons off of Rte. 66 near Marshall, but I haven't done it since my lab died back in 2006.  It is something I would love to do again someday.
Really like your 16 gauge...I think it's a highly underrated gauge

Loved hunting grouse and woodcock in PA with 16 ga SxS.

Some of the most fun hunting I ever did.

Looks like a dinosaur to me but congrats! As a kid they were everywhere. If you ask me that's the greatest upland bird. Used to sit on my deck in spring n listen to em drum. Now we have go north to see very many. Most kids never saw one except mounted. Great bird

Back in the fall of 1980 I was deer hunting on a leased property in Chancellorsville, VA.
Late in the morning I was sitting just off a deer trail with my legs out on the trail, in an overgrown field soaking in some sun and warmth, a grouse came walking down the trail and walked right over my legs.  He even paused for a second and looked down at my boot like he was wondering, "What the heck is that thing?" before heading off on his way.
One of my all time favorite hunting memories.
