Title: Something is going on
Post by: unclerick on April 24, 2011, 01:03:46 PM
Here in my neck of the woods the birds have been quite and very scairse all season, there is very little gobbling on the roost and none on the ground, but in other places the birds are going crazy and want shut up. I know something must be happening to these birds I'm hunting, but what?

Any of ya'll have any ideas...

Could be a number of things...predators, henned up, hunting pressure...or the worst - maybe they're not there. If you have sign that the turkeys are there then stick with it, they'll bust loose soon.
If you know the birds are there, I'd say hens are your problem, try a late morning hunt when the hens are nesting.

I know what you mean Rick. It is very quiet where I usually hunt. I do have one worthy opponent though. He gobbled from 2 this afternoon until 5 when I left to get ready for chruch. However he marches his but to the middle of the field and stays there. He blows up at every call and faces the woods from 200 yds away and just laughs at me.

Otherwise it is pretty silent except for a jake or two.
