Well... I was finally able to close the deal this afternoon. Around 4:00 I had 3 gobblers come into my 2 hens and a Jake DSD setup about 20 yards away. These long beards went straight for the Jake. After they lightly flogged my decoy I killed the 1st bird. Then the other 2 birds started to beat the crap out of 1st bird that went down and then they turned their attention back to my Jake decoy. These birds went into a fighting frenzy! I said enough of this crap as they smacked my new DSD decoy for last time and I shot the second bird. Unfortunately, I can't use these birds for the contest. When I got back to the house I couldn't find my scale anywhere; it somehow was moved from the spot where it's been the past 3 seasons. IDK! I looked everywhere for it without any success. :( Sorry to let you guys down. According to our bathroom scale, the larger of the 2 birds weight 27 lbs and the smaller bird weighed 20 lbs. I still had 5 weeks to fill my second tag, but I decided to kill the 2nd bird because I've never shot a double. So, it was another 1st for me!!! The albino I've been chasing will just have to make it until next season. I'll make sure to get a new scale before I head to MO and NE.
