Hi. New to this site and a novice turkey hunter. I picked up a used mossberg 835 with a 24 inch barrel and kicks .670 choke. Do you have any factory load recommendations for this combination to get me pointed in the right direction. Thanks for any help.
Lots of loads would work for you. For a cheaper load try Winchester LB #6 3in. Federal #6 grand slam loads. I have posted some patterns with different chokes but not a Kick's choke.
Hevi shot. 3" #7 has worked best for me.
Deep clean and polish the barrel. Find a decent choke in the .670 constriction range and feed it whatever. You'll be suprised how many loads the 835 will shoot well to incredibly well.
I'd definitely try any winchester load in #6 shot. I got a kicks .670 choke from a member on here for my 20" barreled 835 and though I haven't gotten to shoot a lot of loads through it yet I did put a win supreme 3" 1 3/4oz #6, a win double x 3.5" 2 1/4oz #6, and a Kent 3.5" 2 1/4oz #6 through it and they shot nicely. The double x was a smoking pattern with 160 in the 10" if I remember correctly but all were deadly at 40yds. Would have shot more but only had a few of each winchester.
My 835 really likes the LB #5s and #6s. Only issue is, they're really tight at fairly close range. I shoot a Carlson's Turkey choke. Can't remember the constriction right now though. Maybe .675?
