Title: Another SoDak Double
Post by: SD_smith on May 14, 2018, 11:39:53 AM
Took my uncle out for his first merriam hunt yesterday. He is from the motherland (South Florida) and never chased them out this far west. Birds flew down off the roost within 30 yards and we let them jack around for a few minutes then he let the hammer drop on on gobbler and the other couldn't run away fast enough. I am a firm believer in that if you have the tags...leave no witnesses. My uncle was a veteran of an infantry unit during the Vietnam War and had just conquered a recent battle with cancer resulting from that time period. Him and my father taught me everything I know about turkey hunting and both can lay down an Osceola at will. They just seem to have that knack to do it. After all the years of advice and lessons he's passed on to me, it was the least I could do to give him a very memorable hunt in being our first double together. This is only on private land behind high fence with clipped wings south Dakota has almost no public land turkeys you need to head to Louisiana public land if you want a shot a killing a turkey we call it in Texas the land of milk and honey when it comes to turkey hunting.

Yeah... There's a lot of So Dak public land.  I've been working it for a while.

Yep, come down to South Louisiana.  We are overrun by turkeys.

Yes people will bash LA but its an up and coming turkey mecca easy to call and tons of unpressed trophy size longbeards
