My son in law #2 has never got a bird before and he found a "HOTSPOT" so we made an assault saturday. Birds hadn't been harassed to his knowledge and there were several longbeards along with a gang of jakes. Decided on a strutter and a submissive hen even tho I HATE DECOYS! Birds gobbled on both sides of us and a hen was roosted real close too so she squawked at my calls and gobblers responded to both of us. At flydown the HERD came around the corner and came running stopping at 20 yards in front about 10 yards from decoys. 2 longbeards and 8-10 jakes PERFECT since SIL's nova had a stuck modified choke but did load him with 3" #7's heavyshot. He rolled him with others hanging out gobblin at my cuts but 40-45 yards on the second longbeard was a little too far for my 20 with HW 7's so gun stayed in my lap. His first bird and had triple beards 11, 9-1/4, 7 inches with needlesharp hooks both at 1-3/8. Fistbumped and he said this is easy, I replied YEA RIGHT! Told him that bird going to be hard to beat! To top it off it was my birthday, what a BLAST getting him his first bird and a MONSTER at that, hens starting to nest so now hopefully gonna be my turn soon.
Goodness!!! Congrats on a great hunt and bird!!

Congratulations on a fine gobbler! It is great to see you have a good relationship with your son in law. I am very fortunate to have a great relationship with my father in law and it means a lot to me. Good luck getting your gobbler!
Congratulations to you both. Thirty years hunting and I've never killed multi beard.... Awesome!
Beginner's luck is a good thing. Now he'll be hooked forever, and that first hunt will get him through the tough seasons. That's how it worked for me. Awesome looking bird.
Yea ShootingABN! I've got about 30 years under my belt and ZERO on the multiple beards for me too. Now my daughter has been turkeyin about 8 years and she has 4 multiple beard birds including a 4 bearder, Jr (my son) has been chasing gobblers around 10 years and NADDA multiples either. Multiple beards run high in this area of MD and so does bearded hens have passed on a couple of them. Beard rot very common here too maybe that's why they need multiple beards cause they rot and fall off so much LOL Must be sumthin in the water. OH WELL just have to keep shooooten em till I get a few.
BTW SIL is getting a shoulder mount of his bird like his sister in law has.
.
Congrats!
Nothing better than being there with someone and the first bird!
Heck of a first bird!
DANG, but that's a horse of a bird !!! CONGRATS !!!!
That one DEFINITELY earns a trip to the taxidermist !!! Yep.
Great job
