Title: ALPS Deception Ground Blind
Post by: tha bugman on May 03, 2018, 03:31:46 PM
Who all used one this year and what were your thoughts on it?  Looks pretty neat!  Is it large enough to put two gobbler chairs side by side?

I think someone else here that bought one said it would get cramped even with a young child with you when I asked the same question.

Probably not comfortably.  They might fit, but it would be tight.

It's a one person blind. Get a low chair too:)

Shot 3 Tom's out of it and I think it's a great blind for one person, teamed with vest with a backrest or a turkey lounge chair it's great, one man blind only, light to pack in, would like mesh for windows but I will add that for next year, sat in a 2 hr downpour and didn't even get wet.

4 hour downpour for me, also dry. 2 birds out of it thus far

Hunted mine probably a dozen days this year, killed 3 toms out of it.  It would be very "friendly" in there with two adults, it's mostly a one man blind IMO.  Might be able to make it work with a kid for a short sit but I would still probably want a bigger pop-up to make it more comfortable.

I used their Vanish MC chair in there (got the package deal from Macks when it was on sale), very nice combo.  I have some longer walks and I set up/tear down every hunt, so I wanted a lightweight blind for my solo trips, fits this bill perfect. Seams leaked a little bit in the couple downpours I hunted in, might hit it with some nikwax before next season to see if it helps.

Can't quite swing a 26" barrel all the way around the interior, still need to work around the supports if swinging your gun.  I do like the window set up though, they are set on sliders and adjust easy and quietly as needed.

One thing I don't understand, the stubble straps on the inside of the windows and no exterior stubble straps?  I typically don't take the time to use them but just thought that was odd.

Overall I like it.  If you like to hunt from a blind and hunt alone, and tend to set up/tear down daily or have longer walks, run and gun- definitely worth the price.

Edit- the one thing I would have liked to see would have been a small window on the back/door, or a double zipper to allow you to peek out the door.  Not a deal breaker but it would be nice to be able to glance back to see what's going on in certain situations, I might take it to a canvas shop and get something cut and sewn in.

I bought mine on sale right after turkey season several years ago. Just monitor their site and others that carry them.

Borrowed a friends on two rainy day hunts last year, stayed dry even in a downpour!

Killed one bird from it, popped it in the middle of an alfalfa field where there was no good hide around the edges, worked like a charm, will buy my own at some point!

Definitely single person, I'm not large and it's fine inside but a little tight.

That's to hang beards from!  I will get mine out later and look, don't remember those but I've only used it 3x in 5 yrs.

I just popped mine up and it does not have any brush loops inside or out. Maybe they changed them after I bought mine. I am reminded how nice the shooting windows adjustments are compared to many other blinds. You can keep them small and adjust in the fly to shoot as opposed to the blinds with larger zipper panels that don't open the way you want.

Pretty sure the dash panel blind cost me the last bird I had come in as I was probably skylined by him through it. That's why I'm getting rid of it and going with the deception.

If you're eligible for guidefitter you can get them for a decent price, but not as good as some of the prices in this post!

I think I know the answer to this but can you shoot a bow in this blind? A 33" axle to axle bow? I like the idea of this.

Just read the dimensions and no way to shoot a bow out of it. Still might pick one up for gun hunting them.

One man blind, but you can spring clamp them together for 2 if needed. It works pretty slick. Z

A great little blind. It may start to leak abit with regular use.  One person only but as someone said you can set 2 up side by side and easily chat with a friend.  If your going to carry it far replace the cheapo shoulder straps with something more comfortable. Perfect for a low chair or gobbler lounger.  Strap it all together so back to better shoulder straps.  I actually use it more for gun deer season. Nice place to hang out and scope out the eastern hardwoods!

Yes they are. Once you add it to cart and select ship to your house the total will be right at $130 with shipping. The image of the blind appears to be bottomland on the website but it says Obsession. Either way it's a good deal.

When I first saw this, I thought it was only the Bottom land pattern.
I checked again just now and they had it in my preferred Obsession.  Just ordered one, still on sale.
