Title: Missouri Spurs
Post by: sevetts on May 01, 2018, 11:10:16 PM
It's been so tough this year, local game warden said Texas county was down 70% from average kill after the first week and I am curious what % we will end up being down on the season as a whole. I have hunted everyday and there have been some highlights but the birds around me just haven't gobbled on the ground much. I did manage to kill a bird yesterday. I got in between 2 birds on the roost, sat down waiting on the birds to tell me what to do, I made 2 soft calls and this bird gobbled 50 yards from me and less than a minute later I shot him at about 30 yards. I had no clue he was there and almost needed toilet paper but I'll take all the blessings I can get this season. We don't get spurs like this in southern Missouri very often(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180502/9d4a92ecface879399ec03f2d37bf298.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180502/1202d288c839ad39e14fc732582f98be.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180502/0ca2ec3efaf76ba3e85cf980dcdae542.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180502/4a8ff76637e85490dfbc8e8eb2f6a0d0.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180502/d5788a4b52c511474600b3f3d33dec0a.jpg)

We didn't kill nothing but old turkeys there this year either.

Nice hooks bro, I got me a limb hanger this year too, but it doesn't need to be a big limb, only 16 pounds, lol. Congrats

Hey thanks all, I got 1 9/16 and 1 5/8 on a metal tape measure. My best old turkey hunting buddy had open heart surgery on the 17th of April and missed the entire season. He was pretty happy when I gave em too him that day.

Yes sir that is a stud for Texas County. In 26 years of Hunting Texas and Shannon Counties this was the worst year ever. Never heard a gobble after 8 in the first nine days of hunting.  Contacted the locals yesterday, and no one has killed yet. Very strange year.

Definitely a strange season in Texas co. for sure. Hunted youth weekend and first week of season. Saw birds still flocked up and not responding to calls. Hardly any gobbles and none after flydown.
Hoping this weekend will be better.
