Title: Opening Day in MA
Post by: Meatseeker on April 30, 2018, 06:14:14 PM
Today was the opener in MA.   I'm on the board.  A lot of the birds are still in big groups and pretty henned up.  We had a lot of gobbling on the roost but the birds were pretty unresponsive after they pitched down.  Moved on to a piece of public ground mid-morning for some running and gunning.  We found a bird simply because he was shock gobbling to a guy fixing the metal roof on his barn on the adjacent property.  We set up on him.  After 10 minutes or so we finally got him fired up with some aggressive cutting.  He came in to 30 yards and I rolled him with my 20 ga, Fed HW7's, and a Sumtoy 0.562.  Not a giant, but a solid 2 year old bird.   10" beard, 5/8" spurs, and 18.5 lbs.
