I am taking my JC Higgins - model 583.18 in 16 Gauge Bolt-Action out on Monday for the New Jersey Spring Opener. Shoots really good!! Barrel is marked -Full and weighes about 6 Pounds. I found some OLD 16 Gauge copper plated ammo. American Eagle brand. Over 20 years old. They shoot great. I painted this shotgun green and had to fabricate a trigger guard for it. Probably just load one shell. It does not look like much-- but powders those clay pigeons!
That's a pretty neat shotgun. You don't see many 16 gauge guns being used anymore. I've got an old 16 myself.
I love my old wing master 16 not a bolt gun but love the over looked 16ga
The bolt action JC Higgins was the first shotgun I ever bought. Killed several rabbits and squirrels with it but never took it turkey hunting. Them 16 guages will do alright on a turkeys noggin. Call Winchester up and tell them to make a special run of 16 guage Longbeard XR's!!
Had a few 16's over the years. Just never held onto them. Ammo was hard to find here so they found new homes. Good luck with yours tho.
