My brother's son is a good kid. He's always busy so we don't hunt much. This was the 3rd time he'd hunted w me and his 2nd bird.
Last night I saw some strutters by the house. I knew roughly where they'd be so I went roosting.
Got one to gobble and picked this set.
This morning we had the birds maybe 50-70 yards around us.
When they gobbled he got lit up. Started asking why I wasn't calling, telling me bout birds in the distance.
Anyway, 6 gobblers flew down, some shorts and some longbeards.
I started calling w a scratcher and they responded but were just a pinch too far.
I had to try something so the atomic 13 was used. These birds liked this call. The group turned and started coming closer when my nephew asks if he could shoot.
Tell him not yet they're too far. He informs me they are really close. A gobble lets out that shakes the ground. The type you feel vibrate your skin. I'm deaf in one ear so I look at him to see where he's looking.
Long story shorter there were 2 adult birds right close.
