Title: Another pre-work kill this morning!
Post by: Bustabeak on April 21, 2011, 09:14:55 PM
We have hunted this property before, heard some gobble but no luck and it's taken a couple weeks to get back to out there but it paid off.   We sat up an the wrong side of the field the first trip But we went back after them there this morning and had a better idea of the land. The middle of the pasture has a  young pine tract about 100 by 50 yards wide right in the middle. We got in there early and just listened.   one finally gobbled and we actually set up 10 yards from where we were listening. I made some calls just to let him know we were there.  The bird flew down about 150 yards from us and started gobbling and strutting looking for the hen. I called a bit more and a hen flew Dow behind him. I'm not sure what made him come away from the hen ( possibly my sweet talk in haha) but he came running. We couldn't have set up more perfectly and I got to call to call one in for  my pastor and good friend his first longbeard! We argued on the way to the property because I said turkey hunting to me is more exciting than deer hunting. He said "there is no way" after he saw all the action of him strutting and gobbling and after the shot he looked at me and said " ok.... Maybe on certain occasions it can be more exciting!!!" hahaha!!  it was a fun quick hunt but another one to remember. You just can't beat it even if you aint the one shooting! 10-1/2 " beard 1" spurs and he weighed 19LBS.

Good bird.  Congrats to you both.  Sounds like you're slowly bringing him over to the good side.

Left my primos real wing at the tree where he killed the bird  at so I had to go back to get it yesterday afternoon since they don't make them any longer and took a picture of where we killed it! I don't get to hunt too many places that look like this so in my eyes it's turkey country!! He flew down on the top of the lower hill about 150 yards out and he blasted him where I'm taking the picture from!
