Title: Loving old "Funky"
Post by: joey46 on April 05, 2018, 08:22:36 AM
On Friday 3/30 had heavy gobbling then watched a bird strut in an open pasture at 150 yards for an hour.  Made plans to get him next trip.  I set up close to his pasture/strut zone in the pre-dawn but had to relocate after ranching activity on a neighboring property seemed to quiet the birds down to nothing.  At 8:45 in my new spot heard clucks and purrs approaching on a cattle trail.  Six turkeys strolled out.  Four jakes and two longbeards.  I had two hens and my Funky Chicken set up.  As normal the birds went straight to Funky.  After a little separation I managed to pop a 17# 10in Osceola at 24 yards.  Even after the big boom and smoke from my Knight TK2000 mzl the five remaining weren't in any real hurry to run off.  Funky at times has that reaction.  Fun stuff.  BTW - not a gobble heard yesterday.

Nice gobbler. I love to shoot them with my TK2000 also.
