Title: Been discussed, trumpets and wingbones
Post by: BB30 on April 03, 2018, 07:15:14 PM
Tried searching and didn't quite find what I was looking for.

Would like suggestions on specific call makers that make a decent yet affordable wingbone or trumpet to learn on before I spend more on a nicer call.

If the two go hand in hand that is alright too. Just a bunch of call makers out there and not really sure where to start when it comes to wingbones and trumpets.

That's where I looked earlier. There is so much info which is great just a pile of call makers named in there with calls ranging from 45-several hundred dollars.

Was hoping someone could throw out a good starter trumpet reasonably priced for someone to learn on.

Do you have a price range that you have to stay with in? Ez makes a very good affordable wingbone.Chris Brumfiel makes a very good affordable trumpet. There are some others I would recommend as well depending on your price.

I'm waiting on my wingbone from Ez but from what i have seen so far you couldn't go wrong getting one from him.

Ncbowjunkie makes a very nice trumpet that imo is very easy to operate and priced nicely. Put it this way, i bought the trumpet and could make sounds in about 20 minutes. I need to practice to perfect them but it takes very little air to operate and i have no prior experience with a trumpet.

You can have a great call in the 125-150 Range that will make the learning curve easier and you can get your money back if you decide it is not for you.

The only trumpet I have experience with is a Frank Cox trumpet and I wouldn't go in the woods without mine.  Some on here don't like Frank because he is plain spoken; I have only had good experiences with Frank and his caller.

Plain spoken is about the nicest way to put it based on what I've seen.

I've got a few trumpets I hunt with. I'm not a high dollar collector but just a hunter who loves using them. I've got a Reynolds, Jeff Erb, and a Doug Morgan. I use them all but  the Erb is the most effortless to run. I've never used one made by the man mentioned in the above 2 posts and wouldn't ever just based off how I've personally seen him treat people.

I'd check the classifieds on this forum and buy a couple till you get the one that suits you best. You can always re sell them with very little effort if you don't like them.

I made my own wingbone yelper out of the first tom i ever shot. Wasn't that hard if you have a dremel tool and some good epoxy. Have made 5 more sense then. It is a good project in the off season.
