What an awesome hunt. I went in friday evening and roosted multiple birds at a couple different spots like I had said in my earlier post. I decided to hunt a group of birds that seemed to be much hotter than the rest (gobbles 50-60 times Friday evening between three birds). Only downfall was that they were on top of a huge ridge, or more like a mountain. I slipped in after walking well over an hour and set up on a logging road that that i thought would be between the two groups of birds. Sure enough, well before shooting light and basically still dark, one bird fired off to my left about 100 yards away. Shortly after that, two more birds fired off to my right about the same distance. The three birds gobbled their heads off (I counted 178 gobbles before their feet hit the ground). I used my halloran pot to do a little tree talk and was cut off by all three birds, two of them double and triple gobbling. After that i knew it was on and laid my calls down. The bird to my left hit the ground and gobbled 8-10 times before running in to me with no calling necessary and i shot him at 8 steps. The other two birds to my right shock gobbled at the gunshot and continued gobbling all the way within 20 yards of me, full strut, and put on one heck of a show for me. they eventually moved on around the ridge gobbling the whole way, giving me enough time to get my bird and slip out without spooking them. It was one of my more memorable hunts and was awesome for the first day of season since the birds are usually henned up terribly this time of year around here.
Congrats great hunt, I like the club house!
