Ok.... if you had to choose 3 hours a day to hunt turkeys which 3 hours would you pick?
My answer: I would pick 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. For every turkey I've killed off the roost, I've killed 3 late morning
tell your wife turkey season is short and when you leave at 4am youll be back when you get good and damn ready hahah...mine aint divorced me yet

:TooFunny: :you_rock: If my wife only allowed me 3 hours to hunt I'd probably divorce her,but in your case I'd also have to pick 9 to noon or 10 to 1. Roosting birds is effective, but the 9 to 1 has been good to me.
Wife or not I'm a roost junkie, I love to hear the woods waking up. But you gotta live on turkey time when you get on em so...... :anim_25:
9-Noon also. That's been my bread and butter
10 till 2 has always been a great time frame to kill Turkeys for me.

I hunt the roost also... but more often than not I'm more successful later in the morning.
If I want to kill one , 9 until 12. If I want to hear a lot of gobbling, off the roost
Easterns......I'll take the first 3 hours of daylight. I've had more luck off the roost with eastern birds than western birds. Majority of birds were dead by 9 AM.
Merriam's . ....I'll take 9 to 12

Early morning for me here in Virginia.

I love heaaring the woods wake up. Dawn to 9 would be my choice.
I'll take the first 3. It's not always the most productive but I live to watch the woods wake up. I like to call the owls and the wind has not usually picked up so bad.
First 3 hours for me. More times than not, roosted=roasted.
I love hunting the first 3 hours, the next hour is nap time then the next 3 hours to kill a bird!

9-12
First two or three hours of daylight for me. I have found over the years that I have adapted more aggressive hunting tactics and my kill times have moved earlier.

:wave:If been working one at first light, have killed most mine little before 7:00....if not on the ground by then, most by 10-11:00. But nothing like killing him that first hour or so.
I've had more luck late morning. But agree that there is nothing like sun coming up on a clear morning and hearing all the birds gobble on roost.

I killed a nice bird yesterday, 23lbs, 11.5" beard and blunt 1 1/8" spurs, that was the 2nd turkey I've ever killed before 9am. All the rest of mine have been between 9am and 2pm.
I'm with the op, 9-noon
Statistically, my best luck happens within the first three hours.
There is little I like more than watching all God's creatures come alive first thing in the morning and hearing all the different bird calls. It is just one of those things regardless of what I am hunting if I get what I am after or not makes hunting so worth it to me.

That's my method also.
Most of mine come from between 7:30-10:30. Some before, some after, but most are in that window.

Definitely 9 - noon. If I get a bird to answer hard twice at that time, 90% of the time he's taking a truck ride.
I feel like many will say they kill birds early simply because chronologically early morning comes before 9-12. I do enjoy the early morning and hearing the world come alive however if I had to kill a bird I would take 9-12 you hear less but he ones you do typically are more likely to respond to a call.
Like others I like to be out there to hear them waking up but as far as killing goes 09:00-12:00
First 3 hours for sure.
I would pick 9 till 3, over the 25yrs I have killed 85% of my turkeys during that time period, the birds that fly down and walk in are few and far between!
I'd take the 9-12, that's when I've had my success. But I sure do enjoy watching and listening to the woods come alive at dawn.

I like 9-12, but I've had some afternoon shows with Rios that will rival anything off the roost. Nothing like working a bird across a 1/4 mile field strutting and gobbling all the way.
I've killed my biggest bird at 6:30pm
We have killed most bird 10-2
9-12 would be my 3 hours.

Roost for me. I haven't heard a bird gobble after 8 am in years by me. And when I say by me I am hunting alot of area. Ask me that same question 15 yrs ago it would likely be the opposite.
