Turning my grouse gun into a turkey gun. Shot it today with Apex 9's and Hvwt 7's, one shot each. Both shots were a lasered 40 yards with a slightly dirty barrel. Hwvt picture says clean but I forgot I shot a light load first for poa/poi. 26" barrels with a Carlson .575 in bottom barrel. Still waiting for second Carlson tube (.565) for the top barrel. Gonna try some Longbeards in that one. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180326/ae425b9df211bb4ecec73f2422369ccc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180326/b534f16ff66a9d3e608966699e046877.jpg)

thinking about building one of these next year what is the poi difference in the two barrels thanks
POI is about what I expected, slightly lower with bottom barrel and right on with the top barrel at 25 yards. I've only shot the bottom barrel with a turkey choke and at 40 yards it was right on using all of a single Tru Glo bead. I have a feeling I'll be using just the top half of the bead on top barrel. Side to side (windage) is right on. Gun weighs in at 5.5 lbs with sling and 1 extended choke tube.
Do you slip that sling off the barrel when you setup on a bird, or shoot with it on?

I can see the top half of the Tru Glo bead over the strap so I'll leave it in place for now. I tried to run the front strap between the rib and top barrel but it was too thick. I will eventually modify the strap to work between the rib/barrel.
Get an Uncle Mike's barrel band. Simple to install.
That's a pretty nice :gobble: getter.
Nice gun and good pattern. You are not going to use an open choke in one barrel for the really close shots?

Not to de-rail Mike's thread, but have you used one of these? Any scarring or rust issues on the barrel?

I shot both barrels yesterday with a load of Federal 2-3/4" 1oz copper plated 7-1/2's. I'll shoot that load out of the bottom barrel with the .575 tube for close up work. Good 20" pattern at 25 yards. Would like a 3" load of
7-1/2's but can't find any. Gonna shoot some 3" Browning nickel plated 6's next time out.

I went out in the garage and cut an 8" piece of strapping off one of my many tie downs. Sewed a loop in one end and ran the other between the rib and top barrel. Tag end back onto the sling, works great. Added the second Carlson tube also.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180331/0cf3397f01876824e74d840072957c82.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180331/a0a61344c1e703e9ef0851a63c66be43.jpg)

You should find some Winchester Super Pheasant 3" 6s for your upclose barrel to try. I shot some today out of a Franchi 720 with a Carlson's 575 tube. 20 and 30 yards were GREAT hunting patterns. Haven't sat down and counted numbers yet, but I really liked them for inside 30.

Thanks, I'll watch for some.
Rather amazing with both shells. I'm still amazed that Federal Discontinued the Heavyweight shells. They are the best 20 gauge load ever invented IMO in size 7.
This gun and load/choke combination proved that it would do the job. .565 top barrel with TSS #9's and .575 with HVWT #7's in bottom barrel. The 9's did the job on this guy at 31 paces. One feather at the kill sight.

Yup, had to keep that one for myself. Bloodwood over/under Black Limba.
