Title: First post and first bird of the year in MS
Post by: VirgilCain on March 22, 2018, 01:37:29 PM
New to the board, and this is my first post. Took off work on opening day in Mississippi last week, and it was perfect. Got to my land a little later than I would've liked and they started gobbling when I was about halfway to my spot. Heard at least 8 birds gobbling, so I booked it down the trail and setup as fast as I could. Hit a soft yelp and 4 birds exploded about 100 yards to my left. A few hens flew down and crossed the trail in front of me so I clucked and yelped a couple of times and shutup. About 10 minutes later 3 Toms appear about 40 yards to my left. They came right into my decoys and I took the one that I had the best shot at, about 20 yards away. Perfect way to open the season, and my friend that declined my invitation was kicking himself since we surely would've had a double!
