Title: Advice needed on sling stud installation
Post by: pinch on March 21, 2018, 01:31:40 PM
I need to install a swivel sling on my synthetic butt stock. The stock is hollow but there is a reinforced area were the butt pad screw goes. Thanks in advance for any advice.

If there is not enough room in the reenforced area you could shape a small block of wood to fit in the stock and tap into that. Wouldnt take much just make sure to use a solid piece so it does not split.

You could also use a 2 part epoxy or JB weld type of material to reinforce after installation. Would be quicker then shaping wood.

If it's like most synthetic stocks the reinforced area for the recoil pad screws runs the length of the inside of stock. Measure the pad screw and drill a hole a 1/4" ahead of screw length. Drill the hole slightly smaller than the sling screw and slowly screw it in the sling screw will thread the plastic stock and the sling screw will be tight and not back out. In the second picture you can see the sling screw next to the white dot. This was a 870 stock that was shortened 1" and the pad and sling swivel reinstalled
