Found this at an old gun shop here in Athens. The box of 10 Federal shells Has "heavyweight " on it, but also has "copper plated shot" which indicates copper, not tungsten.
What are these shells??
Federal 3rd degree has heavyweight copper shot and flight stopper shot in it
Third degree shells are pretty new stuff, just been out a very few years. This is OLD.
That's copper plated lead shot.

That's copper plated lead shot.
Yep and the heavyweight is for the 2oz.load of shot which then was a common 17/8 oz.
Neat find
Those pre-date the flitecontrol wad too. I shot those for several years and killed quite a few turkeys with them. Should be burgundy ribbed hulls with black ink. That's definitely a fair price on the box too.

Had a similar find at a hardware store here in North Georgia a couple years ago. Older store with cabinets in the sporting goods area. The guy who worked there let me ramble in the cabinets and I found these. Sadly, I sold my 3 1/2" Mossberg soon after and I can't use them. Simply honored guests in my ammo box :happy0167:
Old school copper plated lead shot.
That is cool find for both of you guys, that's ole school!
Nice birds!! Sounds like an awesome hunt!

Yep. Really good copper plated lead. I used those and they flat work. Great find!
Sounds like me I have 2 new boxes of the old Remington turkey 6 shot Hevi Shot 10 shells per box 3 1/2" and I sold my 870 Super Mag. If I could figure out how to resize my pictures I would list them for sale in the classifieds used to just be able to download them from my IPad I did not even need to resize them.
I still have some of those in 3" #6 and #4 that I bought back in 88-92 when I was in high school. They shot well out of my BPS, and like others said they killed turkeys for me. I still carry some around with me in my vest. My son and I will split a box of the "latest / greatest" each year, and I figure if I run out of them, I can throw in some old-school turkey loads. Those Federal Premiums and the black Winchester Supremes will still do the job.
