I am sure this is a stupid question before I ask...but here it is anyway. If you held your gun in some sort of vice and fired 5 shots would you expect the center of the pattern to be in the exact same spot every time, or would you expect it to drift around some? If you expect it to drift some, how much would you consider normal? Lets also assume perfectly warm zero wind conditions.

Doubt it would ever hit the exact same spot. Its a shot cup with folding petals full of hundreds of small round/roundish pellets. Way too many factors involved to be as consistent as say a slug gun. It wouldn't be much, maybe an inch or two but itmwould shift from shot to shot I'd imagine.
With the right load, combo, consistent shells, etc - the pattern should be consistently even around the POA. If it is not, I would not want to shoot it. Of course it is a shotgun, so there will be variations within those patterns, but within a 10" circle, there should be even coverage (no gaps) and the count should be fairly consistent - all centered at the point of aim.

I agree as well, however my question was different. I am assuming a consistent even pattern each shot, but wondering if you would expect the center of that pattern to be in the exact same spot shot after shot after shot... or would you expect it to move around some? I got to thinking about this the other day when shooting my CZ 22. It held a 1/2" group at 50 yds and I thought surely that has to be more consistent than a shotgun and shell combo. That made me wonder how much movement of the pattern centers would be considered normal. Looking at it as a single dot marking the center of each pattern shot, how big would that "group" be after 5 or 10 shots?

Not sure I really understand what you are asking I reckon. If you fired 10 shots with the parameters I stated above and then looked at the back of the paper and put a dot at the center of the best 10" circle I would expect the dot to only vary within an inch in any direction. Is that what you are asking?
