Title: Pot Call questions
Post by: bigredtn on March 12, 2018, 01:19:03 PM
I have won a call and love it, I want to buy another, but different pot, what should I look for in a high quality pot call and what to watch out for.  Thanks in advance.

I really like hearing one and if I can play it before I buy it.  Lots of calls look good, but sound terrible, but that is all in the ear of the one playing it.

What one do you have that we can recommend one different.. what are you looking to spend infinite options but what surface and price range with help refine the search a bit.

I personally started by reading a ton on OG pot call threads. You'll notice several names repeated. Then I made a mental note of what surfaces I wanted and began buying different makers and surfaces. Also keep an eye on the classifieds here. Some deals are mediocre but if you watch regularly some smoking deals come through to, but they get bought quick so you gotta be on your game. If money isn't an issue then sky's the limit. Once you spend so much time researching and at a show or two you'll quickly learn your likes and dislikes. Everyone is different. I'd recommend going to the NWTF convention or unicoi (I haven't made unicoi yet, hoping to in 2019).

Thanks ya'll.  I am thinking about going with a crystal over aluminum or wildflower's dos vibros that's crystal striking surface and 2 sound boards 1mm apart

What I like to do is use something that sounds different than what the 'crowd' is using. I like high pitched aluminum, and it has served me well. I also use paddle calls, less people use 'em. Same said for scratch boxes.

Everyone I've ran and played has been top notch, I can't say this about some of the top call builders that cost sometimes twice as much.

I ended up ordering the crystal mistress and ordered another from someone else that's crystal over alum.  I can't wait to give 'em a strike.
