Post by: Tomfoolery on March 07, 2018, 07:35:25 PM
Anyone tried it for 20 ga?  Im switching to exclusive 20 use this year and as it seems TSS and hw 7 is no good looking for an alternative.

Four different chokes with not so good results.

Trying one more this weekend if it shows up in the mail on Friday; Carlsons 10306 Extended Turkey .585

Last chance and will switch to Longbeards if they don't pattern well out to 30-yds.

If longbeards don't pattern out to 30 then throw the gun away and keep the shells. That is #6s.

If Federal HW #7s or H-13#7s aren't patterning then the gun should be replaced IMO.

I tried it with a total of 3 chokes in two different guns (youth 870 and Weatherby SA459) and did not get good results.

I also tried Mag Blends in my 870 12 with a Hevi choke and it sucked.  gave them to my nephew and they are perfect in his Nova.  Ya never know.

Shot 1 today out of Mossberg 20 with Longbeard Choke. Horrible @ 40yds might be good for ducks

There's always H13 6's and 7's.  My .570 does great with 6's

My son has 4 Federal HW shells left for his.  I ended up ordering two boxes of Hevi 7 for his 20.  Will pattern next week.  I'd rather him have the extra shot.  Thought about a mix load but those 5s are eating up a lot of space in a 20 gauge shell.

The federal weren't that impressive in his gun anyway.  Killed a few with them but they were inside of 30 so we may just stick with Hevi 7 from now on if it patterns well.

3" 2oz mag blends out of any 12 gauge with a .650-.670 choke patterns great and is huntable

I wander how the 3 inch new Federal 3rd degree shoots in a 12 gauge compared to a hevi shot mag blend.

I tried them last year in my youth 20 ga. 1100 used a IC .555 and a Haymaker .560. 30 yard patterns were good 40 yards were horrible. I wonder if the redesigned wads will will improve patterns.
