I thought many here would want to know the following. Dicks sporting goods and Field and Streams will no longer sell "assault rifles" and will also no longer sell guns to anyone under 21. Personally, I do think some forms of gun control should be looked into (similar to hunters safety, we should require shooters safety/training etc.) but banning certain forms of weapons I highly disagree with. I could see a Walmart or other similar store pulling this move but for Field and Streams to do it is just eye opening to the world we are now living in. When will it stop? For example, let's say the nation bans these semi-auto rifles (even the hunting style one such as mini-14s) what will happen when the next mass shooting involves a bolt action rifle, or a lever action, or a pump action or semi-auto pistols? If this child in Florida did the shooting with a pump action shotgun what would the news be saying? Ban all rifles/shotguns/pistols? Whether your views are for no gun control or some form of control as I stated above...we should all be doing something because I believe we are now headed down a slippery slope here. The antis are rallying big time and now are getting Big brand name stores to follow suit. I honestly do not know what we can do but I for one will not spend another dollar at a Dicks/Field and stream which really stinks because they are the only big box hunting stores left near my house.
Current gun laws should be enforced and when people send tips to Federal, State, and/or local authorities warning that something will happen it should be treated seriously and not just over looked.
Dicks/Field and Stream can go pound sand as far as I'm concerned. Oh, and Chipper Jones can join them!

100% agreed! Screw em all!
Companies can run them however they want. I highly doubt many antis are spending very much money at Dicks sporting goods and personally after the decision they made I wouldn't spend a dime in their store if it was in my backyard. I hope they go broke.
Just like some of the airlines and other place that dropped support of the NRA. I don't care if i have to pay more somewhere else, but I'm not spending money at places that are for ruining some of the things I love.

Hey Dicks...Go pound sand. You wont get another dime from me. Ps.. Chipper jones take a nose dive off of a very tall building.

Said publicly that AR's should not be available to civilians, that only soldiers should be allowed to use them.

I will never set foot in those stores again. When their position is that gun owners and the nra are no different than the homicidal maniac that shot up a school, well, you have just drawn a line in the sand.
They sell nothing but junk anyways, good riddance.

Ouch. That wasn't a good move.
I like how that article and chipper pick and choose what they like about what he says they agree with him on the gun control but not on the corporal punishment. I got my spanked with a belt when I was a kid and I grew up all right. Kids are giving everything they want today they can't handle when they don't succeed
yep I did something I renewed my NRA membership, cut up my cards for dicks/ field and stream stores, with any luck they'll go bankrupt. All it takes is the hunting community to stick together and boycott all these places and businesses . I would 10 times rather support the small business and small gun shops anyway.
SO DICKS, FIELD & STREAM, AND CHIPPER GO PIzz UP A ROPE

Screw them and their junky merchandise x2
Dick's and F&S has seen the last penny from me. Shame to as I pass both stores twice daily to get to and from work.
These places won't see another penny from me either. Didn't care for dicks in the first place.
When they first opened one here in town, my wife and me went in to check it out. We both were not impressed with the store, the guy at the gun counter was just plain rude, when we walked out my wife said, at least they got the name right. Dicks! That's what they are!
Will never again buy from them. Maybe, if enough, people boycott their business they will be forced to close their doors.
This doesn't surprise me. Walmart stopped selling AR's a few years ago. They're just getting out of the AR game before insurance companies and attorneys get involved on the off chance someone is shot with a rifle they sold. There's also the negative PR aspect in the current media climate. Lots of parents won't want to buy their kids soccer shorts in the same store that sells evil black rifles. I'm not saying any of this is right, in fact it's crap, but it is the current direction things are heading. Even without anti gun legislation public opinion is shifting and that dictates what big box stores like Walmart dicks and field and stream sell or don't sell.
That said I have ARs and as far as I'm concerned you can pry them from my cold dead hands.
As for big box stores I buy my guns from Mom and Pop shops where they know my name when I walk in the door.
Its a sad day in this great country of ours when at the age of 18, one can going the military and fight for are country, but can't go into these two stores and buy a gun. That's pretty sick if you ask me.

AMEN to that! Raise the draft age if an 18 yr old can't legally purchase a firearm!
BTW, Walmart is raising the age to 21 to buy guns and ammo in their stores.
As Sheriff Buford T. Justice would say, "What the hell is the world comin' to?"
I haven't been in one in years and never into a Field and Stream. I won't be going into either one again.
As far as new guns laws, there should be absolutely ZERO new laws and all laws controlling private ownership of any type of firearm should be repealed, including fully automatic weapons.
The 2nd Amendment was not written with a clause stating age of ownership nor type of arms.
I grew up with a Father that encouraged learning about firearms from an early age and taught me proper firearm handling and safety. We had guns throughout the house and I knew from early own to treat them as if they were loaded, because they were loaded. I received a BB gun at about 4 years old, then a pellet gun around 7, first deer rifle and shotgun at 10. By the time I was 8-9 years old, I had free range throughout the woods around our house to hunt and shoot.
I have a 14 year old daughter and she knows that any gun on any floor of the house or in my vehicle is fully loaded. She knows how to shoot and knows proper firearm safety.
Yep, blame it on the guns.

Now that will really hit home for a lot of people . Walmart shoppers.
Don't send your 20 year old marine corps reserve son or daughter to pic up your turkey loads because it ain't happening.
So now we want our 18-21 year old sons and daughters to make a living and get an apt or home and have no way to protect their self from an intruder!
Wait till a young women gets attacked in her apt and says she had no way to protect herself because she couldn't get a gun because she was underage. :fud:
No GOD in our schools...Kids raising kids and teaching no morals at home..now we have kids killing kids. Must for sure be the guns fault!!! Even though guns have been around LONGER than the public school systems! Some people can't see the forest for the trees... Makes me sick..
Whole lot of venting going on here. Why not take it to Dick's. Go in and ask to look at their AR's. When they give you the not selling AR's routine tell them that you heard that but didn't believe they could be so naive. Then say you will never return to a Dicks and spend your sporting dollars with them. Be polite and I guarantee your words will go to the top.
Dick's just opened a brand new store last week in my home town. I haven't been in it yet and now never will! My money will be spent elsewhere. If they don't want to sell AR style guns, that's up to them. If they don't want to sell high capacity magazines, that's up to them. What bugs me the most is their not selling firearms to anyone under 21. My youngest nephew, who is 19, is in the Army. He is very proficient at handling a firearm. He can be called upon to put his life on the line for our country, but Dick's won't sell him any firearms piss's me off!
Sounds like Trump is jumping on the "anti-gun wagon" as well...

Been in there once and the selection was terrible and Chipmunk who?
As a great many of us know, most of these (Anti-Gunners) have no clue even to what's what about firearms, what laws are in place and what personal responsibility is or what the NRA is even about. When I watch a NBC News show an "AR-15" (No it's a shotgun and "AR" does not stand for Automatic Rifle) shooting a watermelon, they (mainstream media) have no idea, it is just their agenda. As for Dick's And Field & Stream they will not see my business through their doors... A lot more I could go into about what other causes to what our country is facing...
MK M GOBL
Dicks quit selling them 3 yrs ago in their stores. So they then gave them to their cousin store F&S to sell talk about hypocrisy its live and well in these stores. Walmart quit selling them yrs ago also so Dunhams sporting goods store jumped in the game and was selling them. :firefighter:

Simple politics for Trump - mid terms coming up quickly.
I will no longer do business with either myself.
This next comment is for all of us, please do not refer to guns/firearms as "weapons", it is the lingo of the anti's and is self defeating for us to do. A hammer is a hammer until somebody uses it to bash somebodies brains in, until then it is just a tool just like a gun is a tool.
The only group that has guns/firearms that are weapons and are designed to be weapons are military and the police. I don't really like to even say that the police are.
I think I'll visit the local Dick's and fill a cart with as many small things that will fit. Then I'll go to the gun section and ask them to "see" as many guns as I can. They can't leave you while you are looking at a gun.
Then I'll ask them what their policy is for 18 year olds. Then I'll ask to see a manager. Then I'll walk out empty handed and let them put away the mess. Next stop.............Field & Stream!

So my personal view about the 21 yoa for assault style rifles is I personally don't care if they raise the age, except that I don't believe it will change anything. It's like putting a bandaid on a severed limb, it won't fix the problem. I don't see this impacting most people under 21. It's like the outlawing of bump stocks, again i don't care but i think it's stupid and won't make any impact. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing the age of adulthood raised to 21 (and there is scientific evidence of why I like this idea). The not selling ammo to people under 21is stupid and restricting all gun sales to people under 21 is stupid with current laws considered. And lets face it even if they do this if s 17 year old wants a gun they will be able to find one. Mass murder is illegal and that didn't stop these shootings. I tell people as far as guns go, Obama used to say "you don't see mass shootings in other countries with strict gun laws" and he was right we generally don't, but we see bombings all the time. What happens if the government does somehow reduce guns and we see school bombings, what's next banning PVC and nails? I feel the government is just appealing to emotions for votes and they are treating a symptom not curing the disease.

I'd bet if some 20 year old kid went into these stores to legally buy a gun as was denied he'd have a big lawsuit. You can sell what you want but you can't descriminate. That's age descrimination.
Now I'd imagine a lot more kids get killed drunk driving than in mass shootings. Imagine if you said no more liquor until 30 in your bar. I'd bet that'd not fly unless you let no one in under say thirty. As in an over certain age crowd. Legally they're old enough to be involved.
It's America and a free market economy. They should be able to dictate who they sell to, let the consumers decide if it was the right move.
Filling the basket and leaving is beyond petty. The person that has to restock has no say in company policy, they are just making a living.

Agree 100%
We aren't talking about rights here. This is a private company making a decision.
Also, I can guarantee this is some form of Dick's trying to "save face" because the shooter happened to purchase the gun used in the school shooting from a Dick's store. I strongly believe that they would not have made this change had they not been publicized as the seller to the maniac that did the shooting.
And I think nearly all of us on this site agree that it is a culture thing not a firearm issue.
3/1/18 News today: "Like Walmart and Dick's Sporting Goods a day earlier, Fred Meyer — a division of Kroger, the nation's largest grocery chain — said Thursday that it will immediately limit gun and ammunition sales to people 21 and older." How about Freddy's and Walmart? Is everyone going to boycott them, too? I assume Krogers will follow.
I'm not spending another penny there either. After they announced it yesterday morning I went to F&S it's 10 minutes from my house and handed the sales clerk my rewards card and cut up store credit card. I paid the balance on that card off and closed the account. Funny thing is they didn't seem surprised or really bothered.
DICKS is DEAD to ME
Bullying, suicide, texting while driving, and drunk driving kills thousands of teenagers but no one wants to address the problem as the kids, or the parents.
I truly believe the media loves hearing about these things, they don't care for human life as much as getting to start fires over politically charged topics
