Title: 870 Pattern Question
Post by: 6shot on February 21, 2018, 04:31:32 PM
I shot my 870 12 gauge today with 3" Longbeard  #6 shot 1-3/4 oz. At 40 yards I got 216 hits in a 10 inch circle . At 30 yards I got from 270 to 298 hits in a 10 inch circle . At 22 yards I got about 325 the best I could tell as there were several big holes blew out of the paper and I couldn't really tell how many individual hits were there . My question is this , are these decent patterns for a 26" barrel 870 ? I'm pretty new to this is why I ask . Thanks

216 hits from a lead 6 out of a 3" shell is a very good pattern!

I would look no farther.

Aim small!

I think you are good to go.. That's great for 1 3/4 load of 6 lead

Seems to me like that gun, choke, and shell are made for each other. Hard to find a bad pattern with that combo

Smoking. Before the Long Beard shells those types of patterns with lead were not possible.

I've been a hard core deer hunter for 35 years but just started turkey hunting two or three years ago . The first couple of years I tried several different lead loads but I didn't really even see what I thought was a pattern until I tried the Longbeards last spring . I just got one gobbler last year but they did great on it .

Yep they changed the game for lead shot capabilities.
