Hickory and tulip poplar.
Dogwood, Persimmon, and yellowheart.
Dymondwood, purpleheart, tulipwood and good ol' hickory.
Hickory for me because it produces clear notes.
Rosewood, but that's not always guaranteed. It really depends on the striker and call matching up.
Persimmon, hickory, tulipwood, dogwood, and bloodwood are all great on slate.
PurpleHeart , persimmon, yellowheart And Black locust.
looks like some forgot the why lol
i carry 3 strikers 1 fiber rod 2 dymond wood 3 black locust
Why
1 gives nice mellow raspy tone
2 can realy get nasty raspy and sharp toned
3 nice medium tone runs little higher pitched
and of course any three will run soft toward middle of call
Lord. I wish I could make myself carry only 3 strikers. I carry about 12 lol.
I haven't found too many that I don't like on slate.I think that is why slate is one of my favorites
Pacific Dogwood, Purpleheart, Zebrawood, Persimmon, Canarywood, and Locust are all good on slate. Personally, my Fowler Pacific Dogwood is the leader of the pack by a pretty fair margin though. It just has that sound I'm looking for when it comes to slate.
I like a raspy so tulipwood, dymondwood and Ipe give me that on just about any surface. If I wanted to run slate a little more on the clear side I would go with cedar or dogwood.
Hickory and Yellow Heart for Slate!
any rosewood
I carry these... Hickory, Rosewood, Dymondwood. I have a few other but these are the favorites.

All depends on your preferred ear... I like a raspy tone and my go to striker is a one-piece I had Chad Gunzenhauser make out of cocobolo wood. I can crank it up loud or bring it down low, it really is outstanding. I haven't found a surface where it doesn't shine. I also carry a woodhaven strike 3 birch flared tip that has a nice high pitch great for clucks/cutting through the wind.
