What are you shedding? Stuff you always used before but decided you don't need anymore in the turkey woods. Everyone talks about additions so I want to hear about subtractions.
Vest, face mask, gloves actually shed them last year. I'm down to a mouth call, trumpet or wingbone, turkey tote and sometimes a pot call. Oh, and my little water bottle.
I lightened up last year. Went fanny pack, slate pouch, box call holder, butt pad, and only carried a headnet, gloves, handful of shells. Worked out great.
I can't think of anything to subtract from my vest I have it pretty much down to the bare minimum from years of culling what I didn't need. The only difference would be the gps and maps get left in the truck if I'm hunting familiar areas and the rain poncho if it don't look like rain.
12 ga. I stopped using a vest and all a few years ago. All I carry now is facemask, gloves, mouth calls, trumpet, gobbler lounge in a fanny pouch, and the little 20ga. Every now and then a pot call.
I forgot- water and tp also.lol
Backpack I wore a vest last year and carried a back pack full of junk I didn't need. If it don't go in the best it don't go.

Decoys.
Slimmed down on calls a couple years ago. My setup works for me and see no sense in changing it right now.
Under britches???
That's the problem, i enjoy all my calls so much sometimes i wish i was pushing a wheelbarrow to just carry it all. It's like i can't leave this at home or yes that call has got to go with me ... I have one old box call and it's a old cheap box call but it's been on every turkey hunt with me in the last 25 years or more, it just has special meaning... I have a big range bag that i carry most all my turkey hunting stuff during the season, i just work out of that bag carrying different calls and such, i like to change up my calls in the woods and try not to sound like the same birds all the time... Love my Glenda satchel... yes water bottle and toilet paper always.. I guess i will take one less shell....

What no toilet paper ...
About 8 lbs of belly insulation. That's the plan anyway. I want to start this season where I usually end up at the end of the season.
I shed my scratch box and short box. I'm almost 100% pot call now. It's just what I like to use

Nothing, I have done this a while ago when I quit my vest and went to my Badlands hip pack. Trimmed a lot out of the vest and figured out what I use to kill turkeys, and then went to the pack...LOL did all this because I started carrying the video camera :)

Nope, never have.
I'm more of a blue shop towel guy
Not really this year, but the best thing I ever shed which made my hunting much more enjoyable was the nagging hag I was married to.

About 60# so far and feeling better. Lol
I've switched to a different vest and it's cut down the # if calls I can carry. Started using a vestless shirt last year some and that really cut down what I could wear. 2 pots/strikers, scratch box, couple diaphragms, gobbler lounger and a turkey tote. Loved it.

Out of all the equipment I carry, the least used is my gun. I have considered leaving that behind as it is the heaviest. :icon_thumright:
Cigarettes! At least I'm trying to leave them behind for ever. It hasn't been easy but I've been smoke free for 2 weeks now and I'm looking forward to the benefits, both financially and health wise.

I also love too many calls and I pick 2 to 4 pot calls each day I hunt along with a few mouth calls. I don't like to sound like the same turkey All the time either. I rotate box calls as well .I only carry one a day. This year I will also rotate between wingbones and trumpets as well. That is my excuse to my wife for having a lot of calls anyway
I'm going totally nude this year. I'll roll in some mud, use natural voice calling and wring their neck barehanded.
I may carry a pot call on occasion and use my blue-diamond boner as my striker.
I won't need Permethrin but I'll sure use plenty of OFF before I leave the truck.
Unlike the TV show, I'll be Naked and UN-Afraid! :toothy12:

Best of luck Farmboy27. It's a tough road ahead. I still want one from time to time. Quit on April 3 2009 after smoking for 38 years. It was like getting a raise. Went and bought a motorcycle with the extra cash. Bike payments less than the cigs. Gained a few lbs. but still feel better.
I plan on leaving the owl call at the house unless I can figure out how to get the roll at the end.

TailFeather you have the right name for going naked, just watch out for those sticker bushes and barb wire fences ...
Ima hunt Greg Massey's land so
No need for a water bottle since he had installed water stations.
Not taking toilet paper since I don't have a gal bladder anymore
And everything's liquid do just will use grass and leaves.....
Someone mentioned in another thread about using a blade of grass as a turkey call, just make sure you don't use the grass where I've been.
I may leave my calls and home
And use a blade of grass.
I am probaly going to leave my 12 gauge at home as well.

Good for you. I quit about 6 years ago and still want one all the time. And I miss my Redman golden blend. But I save SO much money. It's all mental brother. It doesn't get much easier, at least for me it didn't. It's just will power. Keep it up

Another dang woman who wants to try turkey hunting!
Dads take your daughter turkey hunting too , just because they went deer hunting before ???
Good question. I don't think anything is actually going to change this year, which would be a first for me.
Insane amount of work that prevented me from going more last year.
An unfilled tag
Apparently I decided I don't need disposable income, because I have bought a ton of calls...
Seriously though, I will probably shed locators and carry two pots instead of four.
I do not need all the hashtags, competition, and attitudes...AKA modern social media post and I know everything folks on forums. I could do with a few less outlaws along the way too.

Good for you! Keep it going. In time you'll really enjoy how much better things taste.
It took me a long time to figure out what I like to have in my turkey vest. I don't like being caught unprepared, but I know better than to carry useless junk.
I don't use a locator call very much, so maybe that will get left behind.
You know what will happen though, Just as sure as I need it, I won't have it.
Jim
Probably nothing at this point. I pack light.
Everyone that's getting rid of their stuff just sent it my way. I'll put it to good use lol.

I second that I work way too many hours
i didn't feel weighted down last year at all went from a 12 to a 20, I didn't carry decoys once haven't much in years, I don't need a turkey chair with the rocker vest seat so Im pretty streamlined.

One year I made a list of "what I do not need" After I broke the 3rd one I ripped it off the wall and tore it into a thousand pieces. I am hopeless.
I've found that depending on where I go will dictate what I carry at times. When going to hunt public land near my buddy's farm, it's a gun and diaphragm call. Maybe an owl and crow call if mood strikes me. His farm is quite good at times and it borders the public land that's somewhat landlocked to a degree. The "right of way/access" is nothing more than about 2 miles of dirt trail that's sandwiched between 2 fences on private ground. Neighbors let us hunt their place too. With the number of birds there, finding a willing participant isn't too hard most days. The terrain sucks too cuz it's uphill in all directions, even when coming back to the camp. I see no need to carry anything other than a call, gun, gps (cuz I get lost easy enough) and some water. Think I've already mentioned my other plans of attack for other tracts of land though so not going to hash it out again.

I'm bare bones as it is. I usually bring all my calls in my vest but finally realized I never use anything more than my Hooks mouth calls, and mostly just one of them. I figure if I take out more calls it leaves more room for snacks lol.

Exactly, its all you really need. I like this website but my house would probably be paid off if I never joined it.
I don't carry much in the way of calls. Mouth calls and a pot or two. But I carry snacks, water, TP and a Thermacell everytime. All that just don't seem to fit well in a fanny pack setup for me.
I've decided I don't need to work during turkey season this year. Too bad I don't have a choice!
